Top 20 Pairings
Okay, to put a disclaimer on this, I'm actually not exactly a pairings girl (in case you guys didn't notice!) I tend to really love characters and then float them around the series as a sort of fandom bicycle if I go for pairings at all, but.
We'll see if I can flesh out this list! No real particular order (except the first one is my absolute favorite), just filling them out as they come to mind.
1. Sakura/Syaoran (CCS)
So once I tried to write up a post explaining why I love this pairing so much. It failed. Basically I think they are the most cannonist canon to ever canon and their love is fated in 1000 worlds, as Tsubasa:RC has confirmed. I'm specifically in love with the CCS canon with their love for each other growing so organically. Syaoran is just dazzled by how kind and sweet Sakura is and Sakura loves Syaoran for his kind heart and fiercely protective nature. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL TOGETHER
2. Allen/Rinali (Dgure)
Okay, these two are just ... so awesome together because they're so freaking chill with one another. Their fight scenes together are just beautiful. Rinali is so very broken but so is Allen and they are like beautiful sad broken birds together. At the same time they respect each other deeply. Also, they are both freaking acrobats, so best sex ever y/y?
3. Danny Fenton/Sam Manson (Danny Phantom)
I love Danny Phantom, and while I don't love what the show did to Tucker as it moved towards romance I do love Danny/Sam. Sam brings out the best tendencies in Danny and Danny brings out the best in Sam as well, proving their relationship is a surprisingly functional one for a couple of high school kids. They're best friends and partners in arms, and I think that ending kiss was the cutest thing ever animated by Butch Hartman.
4. Wanda/Cosmo (Fairly Odd Parents)
Okay, random! But they are just so - so THEM. I mean, Wanda and Cosmo's love for one another has withstood millenia of Cosmo being stupid and Wanda being a nag, and even though they fight all the time on the show there's never a real question made of the two of them ceasing to be a fairy duo of mayhem and destruction. And they are so cute when they make up at the end of an episode. =D
5. Yuugi Mutou/Dark Yuugi Mutou (Yuugioh!)
YES IN THAT ORDER (Leave me alone). Dysfunctional relationships ahoy! Yuugi and Dark Yuugi spend the first part of the series heavily dependant on one another, only to grow apart and into wonderful separate people as the series progresses but with a deep friendship. Dark Yuugi is heavily informed by Yuugi's desires at the beginning of the series but his devotion to Yuugi on his own is readily apparent - a particularly poignant moment being when Dark Yuugi wanted to discover his own past and denying himself the chance for Yuugi's sake. Yuugi, on the other hand, cares deeply about Dark Yuugi and wants only the best for him. A heartbreaking relationship. I insist on Yuugi 'topping' the pairing because (1)he'd have to initiate everything for our Resident Celibate Ghost character, and (2)Dark Yuugi would pretty much do anything Yuugi asked of him.
6. Tsunayoshi Sawada/Hayato Gokudera (REBORN!)
AGAIN, IN THAT ORDER. Okay, Gokudera is a total hardass but he just melts in the presence of The Tenth. His devotion is deep and wide as the mouth of the Mississippi River and he genuinely loves Tsuna, whether you take that as platonic or sexual. He also lights up like a Christmas tree in the face of Tsuna's approval or very presence. Tsuna - well, okay, he's freaked out by it, but if Tsuna ever made overtures in Gokudera's direction it would be epic and hilarious. Also, Tsuna has to top because Gokudera would NEVER IMPOSE upon the Tenth.
7. Doumeki/Watanuki (xXxHolic)
Um. One of many practically canon same-sex relationships created by CLAMP, I really love how these two bounce off of each other, with Doumeki being quietly devoted to (and helplessly annoyed by) Watanuki and Watanuki being the spastic spazz that he is. They make a wonderful team and when Watanuki settles down and really sees what's in front of him he's pretty much the most awesome guy ever. Also Doumeki is hilarious.
8. Sebastian/Ciel (Kuroshitsuji)
I don't really care if they ever have sex or not (for one thing, Ciel is 13 years old), but their deeply twisted relationship of need/reliance/devotion/hatred/torment is really something to witness. The author never loses sight of Sebastian being a bastard of a demon who would sooner eat a human than look at him, and Ciel, living side-by-side with a monster like this every day and having suffered indescribable trauma, is a disturbingly cold and cruel little boy. Their dialogue gives me shivers every time, guys, every time.
9. Zidane/Dagger(Garnet) (Final Fantasy 9)
Um, man. I have not finished this game but basically Zidane and Garnet are just SO GOOD for each other! Zidane supports Garnet and helps her become an independent person and Garnet helps Zidane to 'grow up' and become a responsible genome being. They're so cute with their casual interactions and I ♥ Zidane for thinking Garnet is really freaking hot in her ballroom dress. XD;;
10. Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye (Full Metal Alchemist)
I'll tell you what, I never expected to write that this was a favorite pairing of mine, but it is one now thanks to the manga. Riza is not only devoted to Roy, she is also present to keep him in line (having sworn to kill him if he ever does something that takes him off the fine line of Fucking Over the Military Without Becoming a Monster Himself)! Roy clearly cares about Riza and appreciates her devotion and professionalism. Riza totally tops, by the way, but she lets Roy think he does. XD;;
11. Seig/Izumi (Full Metal Alchemist)
He kicks ass. She kicks ass harder. And they are both soooooooo in love it's like PDA all over the place. Um. I just love them kicking ass together and also being all lovey-dovey, especially because you know they'd both die for each other if it ever came to that. Please don't let it come to that, sensei D=
12. Kevin Levin/Gwen Tennison (Ben 10: Alien Force)
Guys! GUYS. These two are hilarious. Because they are really into each other but they don't act like a couple 90% of the time! I mean, Gwen will worry about Kevin over Ben and makes Kevin take her on dates and Kevin will learn all the girly crap and stuff for her but they don't really ever kiss or anything much! And Kevin is a huge dork who is SO DUMB about, uh ... everything. It's awesome.
13. Shinichi Kudou/Ran Mouri (Detective Conan)
Ahahaha, well? It's hilarious! Technically Ran is tsundere for Shinichi, being abusive towards him but also demanding dates and stuff, but Shinichi loves it. And Shinichi loves her - not for her perception skills (goodness knows, also he is an arrogant prick about his deducting skills) but for her heart. If absence makes the heart grow fonder, how about non-absence that might as well be absence? They are heartbreaking whenever they actually see each other as Ran and Shinichi, and hilarious as Ran and Conan.
14. Kaito Kuroba(Kaitou Kid)/Shinichi Kudou (Magic Kaito/Detective Conan)
UH. Okay. Basically I am secretly all over this pairing liek woah because they are both SO intelligent, and they challenge one another over and over again. Shinichi is consistently the detective that gives Kaito the biggest run for his money and Kaito is pretty much the only person Shinichi can't consistently thwart/catch. If the two of them worked on the same side together they'd be unstoppable. As it is they have so much chemistry whenever they interact that it burns my ears, even if Shinichi is technically trapped in the body of an 8-year-old.
15. Daniel Jackson/Sha're (Stargate/Stargate: SG-1)
Sha're is so freaking kickass in the few minutes of screentime she gets over the series, and Daniel is just so in love with her (and she with Daniel). I love that she finds Daniel sexy. My headcanon tells me that Daniel was pretty much constantly jaw-dropped around her for like the first six months of marriage, and Sha're was fascinated by everything Daniel knew and how kind and self-sacrificing he was, and dude, they had mindblowing sex every single freaking night.
16. Megatron/Starscream (Every Transformers Continuity Ever)
okay i give up the new movie convinced me they are totally a couple. and starscream is the battered bitchy wife and megatron is the drunk husband with a bitchy boss.
17. Sam Witwicky/Mikaela Banes(/Bumblebee) (Transformers 2007/2009)
Uh. I don't have much to say about it because basically Mikaela loves Sam for his quirky personality and big heart and Sam just still can't believe he landed such a hot, smart, kickass girlfriend. But also Mikaela loves Bumblebee for his body (and everything under his hood oh baby yeah and Bumblebee loves and cherishes Sam (and maybe hero-worships him for his awesome in the first movie) but he loves Mikaela for his brain. So basically they are the most awesome threesome ever with a side order of awesome.
18. John Adams/Abigail Adams (1776 and real life)
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THESE GUYS LOVED EACH OTHER. DO YOU. YOU PROBABLY DO NOT. I mean, they wrote thousands of letters to each other during the Revolutionary War and the years thereafter and they are all just filled with their love for one another. I'm so impressed by their devotion to one another, through thick and thin - a true, committed love. Incredible.
19. Emma/Mr. Knightly (Emma)
I'll tell you what, they're so awesome together. Darcy is a bit of a bastard and Emma can be a controlling woman so they're both very good for each other, forcing each of them to let go a bit of their need for control. At the same time they can match wits for hours, so you know their household would never be boring. Their courtship as detailed by the book is freaking amazing. In fact, now I want to go read Emma again!
20. Joshua/Neku (TWEWY)
And we'll round out this list with a guilty pleasure pairing of mine. Pairings where the 'top' is slightly predatory and the 'bottom' is at a loss/creeped out is a bit of a kink of mine, so with Joshua basically dancing circles around the annoyed, somewhat clueless Neku is just an incredible turn-on for me. They make me laugh and apparently make Neku cry. It's awesome, when I just want to go have fun.
