Vegas Day # 1

Aug 17, 2010 14:00

When we last left our group of intrepid Internet friends, we had arrived in Sin City and eaten a delectable dinner at Rosemary's.

Day # 1 dawned bright and HOTHOTHOT, so gizzie & I went down to the pool. Warning--middle-aged women approaching!!!

We staked a claim to a couple of chairs, anointed ourselves with Coppertone and hit the water. It was like swimming in your bathtub, the water was so warm! This pool was fabulous--absolutely crystalline on the bottom and sides--the way a pool should be. After about an hour, we went back up to shower & go to brunch at Bellagio--where for $19.99 each we had literally hundreds of choices. Everything from traditional breakfast food to sushi, vegetables, soups, salads, fruit, breads, cooked seafood, steaks, and so many desserts. We ate and ate and ate, and then the big group of us split up to explore.

Giz & I went to Caesar's Palace and the Flamingo first, people watching, exploring the decor, all the shops inside the casinos, and we did play our first slots at the Flamingo. We both played a Wizard of Oz penny slot machine, where I proceeded to win just over $6! WOO HOO!!!

We went back out exploring more stuff, and about 4 or so, giz was about pass out, so we stopped in a Ghirardelli's Ice Cream store and cooled off, with the pigeons and other folks. Then we headed ohsoslowly back towards Bally's, stopping again in front of Caesar's for a rest. Back to the room for some cooling off; saw the dancing fountain show at Bellagio (gorgeous, but I wish the lights were colored, instead of all white); then we went to Paris (next door to Bally's). Barry Manilow is on at Paris, but he wasn't there when we were. :( Anyway, the main attraction at Paris (if you're not me and didn't care about Barry Manilow) is the Eiffel Tower ride to the top of the hotel, towering way above the Strip. The legs of the Tower are in the lobby/casino area at Bally's, and above them is a very trippy ceiling, paintd like an outdoor sky, with fluffy clouds and blue sky. If I had been drinking, I would have probably been really confused. ;) It reminded me of the sky at Hogwarts, and it's very very disorienting, even to the sober. Off we went in our elevator up to the top of the Tower; you get out and there's a caged-in observation deck that puts you outside (!); even though it's very secure, I walked around it taking pix with a deathgrip on the rail. I can fly with no problem, but looking down from extreme heights makes my butt tingle. Trust me, it's not a thrill--although Darrell enjoyed it!

There was a rectangle cut out of the cage on the top half of the deck--for sticking your camera out and taking pix. No thanks--not going to risk dropping it and killing somebody, or breaking it.

It's a spectacular view--just like ribbons and ribbons of lights, for as far as you can see.

We came down, went and did a little shopping (I scored an Edward Cullen Eclipse shirt!), and went back to Bally's, where we had a very late supper--pizza and pasta, and hit the hay.

Stay tuned for the next installment!!!
