New Orleans First Impressions
Impressions thus far....
1. Gumbo is very spicy. don't let anyone tell you it isn't. It's also very tasty, but kinda bad when you've neglected to bring the Gaviscon. Found a drug store today and still forgot to get some. Will have to pick some up before lunch tomorrow. Cause Gumbo is good.
2. Hotel is at the southern tip of the French Quarter. I hate it. Would much rather stay in the Holiday Inn or whatever, which is more in the middle of the quarter.
Also, there was a water bug in the ladies room between conference sessions. Yuck...water bugs look gross. Glad CA cockroaches don't get that big.
3. On the news this morning, increased penalties including higher fines and jail time for grave robbing. This is a problem here in NOLA apparently. Yikes!
4. Liquid allergy medicine does not travel well and is now useless.
5. Wrought iron balconies are awesome! I think I need some top top my fake stucco balcony.
6. It pissed down rain all day. Escaped in the afternoon to do some shopping. Rain soaked through my raincoat and my shoes. Good thing I brought extra clothes. Will probably have to have hotel do laundry to have enough dry clothing next week, but Sunday is supposed to be sunny, which is good since I'm doing a plantation tour. Also Tuesday is supposed to be nice, so am hoping to get shopping done in the AM before heading the airport in late afternoon. Guess I will try to do museums inside on Monday.
7. Have not yet had much food, except shrimp, which are huge here. Plan to remedy at lunch & dinner tomorrow. Need a Po' Boy.
8. Also, pecan brittle and pralines are awesome.
