More NOLA

The proper time to visit New Orleans is not at the beginning of the hurricane season, nor is it in the middle of the hurricane season. I think the proper time might be in the winter, but not anywhere near Mardi Gras. The 80+% humidity is literally curling my hair.

I'm in love with beginets. They are the gods gift the breakfast food.

Also, pralines are heavenly, but make you sick should you eat too many. They should be enjoyed spaced out, but often and sometimes for breakfast.

Breaded catfish and red fish burgers are tres bien, though I wish youc ould order 1/4 portions.

Bourbon Street, should be done once, but it looks like Hollywood Blvd and so is not that thrilling, particularly if you don't have a fetish for drinking to get drunk. Naked guys dancing on a bar in the gay neighborhood was fun to watch from the street and one of our party got yelled at by some god botherers, which was amusing. I've just never felt the need to be born again, figuring that the point should be to do it right the first time.

Went to the oldest bar in the US. Atmosphere was good. A/C was divine. Piano singer was awful. Having a hurricane and walking down the street with it past the police was slightly amusing and naughty, but legal here so no great trespass.

The Mississippi River is very large, like a really narrow lake. Also, boats drive on it in really insane patterns.

Saw a demo of Mardi Gras Indians today which was really interesting and had to buy a CD. Off to see plantations tomorrow.
