Our team seems to be "The" team that gets food from our mobile clinic hosts...
So far we have had pizza, Krispy Kreme donuts, Chik-Fil-A, KFC, Jersey Mike's sandwiches, pastries, and a variety of different snack items. None of the other teams seem to be getting any food ... they must think we look hungry.
We have a Friday off this week. Unpaid - we're doing a Saturday evening clinic instead. And we're starting to hit the Hispanic neighborhoods, so we're also employing some translators, which is good for them. I can speak basic Pharmacy Spanish, but not enough to describe possible side effects and warning signs. I can ask if they have any questions, but if they do, I might not be able to answer... Translators are nice to have around.
Everybody on my team at least is really enjoying our job and hoping it lasts ... DHEC is talking about starting to go where the people are, so maybe it will. That means hitting things like fairs, cultural celebrations, homeless shelters, jails, colleges, private businesses, food pantries, etc. And they're still working on approving the vaccine for younger people, so there's that to look forward to in the near future. All of us are willing to do almost anything to avoid going back into Retail Hell and this would be a sweet job if we can keep it.
I'm currently working on a "short story" in the form of a magazine article set 50 years in the future. It's for an anthology about gender and will be presented as a "magazine" with letters to the editor, articles, features, advert pages, and even a "Dear Alix" column. Should be fun and I hope my "scientific article" makes it in.
I'm also working on trying to get together a beach trip for this Fall. Any time I take off will be unpaid, so I will need everyone to pay up front this year if we are to go. So far, I have had only one reply to my email query. Maybe this year Bar and I will just rent a damn hotel room for a week by ourselves ... you'd think my friends would at least say "no thanks, I'm out this year" ...
