(no subject)
Various ramblings ...
After a little over a week, I'm not even tempted by the pastry counter at work, and find myself actually craving fruits and veggies. I tried one of the Low-Cal pasta dishes at Olive Garden, and had to take half of it home for later because it was such a huge plate. I've only lost about 4 pounds so far, but it's not nearly as horrible as I'd feared.
I did slip up a bit last night - we went to a movie and I didn't think to smuggle in a bottle of water, so I got a small Coke. This morning, I felt sluggish and tired, and I'm sure it was the Coke! Sure don't need any more incentive to give the things up (although it was an American Coke and not a real-sugar Mexican one).

It's going to be a busy Fall. Dragoncon on Labor Day weekend, then the beach trip the second weekend in October, taking Mom's ashes to scatter at her old home on her birthday two weeks later, then the Tony Hillerman Conference in November. I'm really looking forward to the beach trip - almost everyone I've invited is going to show up, and I'll really need a week off by then. Dragoncon is going to be fun, but really hectic and crowded, and that always wears me out. The Hillerman Conference is going to be great, too - only my second writing conference and I'm really excited about it. They've got a New Writers' Breakfast that I'm going to sign up for, and I'll be pitching Outlaw Security while I'm there.
The only problem is that there's way too little time before things start happening. It's nearly August already, and I have no idea where the year has gone! I'm going to try to lose enough weight so people actually notice the difference, and it'd be nice to fit into a smaller size of clothing before the conference.
and finally...
I think I'm nearly through with the edits. I've skipped ahead to write the robbery scenes, but then I just have to write up the connecting scenes in San Diego and it's done. I think the third version's tons better than the first draft, so I have high hopes that it'll sell. I do need to put in some blatant sex, I think, and that can come in San Diego. I think I've got the tension about right - might do some tweaking on that end of things before November, but basically I'm satisfied.
