For Better of For Worse?

Hey everyone, I don't know how many of you are fans of the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' policy, but I figured this might be relevant for at least a few members. This is Miami Dade County's (Florida) new policy and procedure for recycling. It makes things a lot easier, and that's nice I guess, since it will most likely encourage people to do more ( Read more... )

Forget that! If people can recycle, they won't reduce or reuse! I say BAN recycling, and limit people's garbage pickup to 1 bag a week.

Make em work for it.

I was really just being cantankerous... but at the same time, out at my farm recycling only comes every two weeks, and you can bet people do a lot more reusing out in those parts than in the city.

that's actually a very interesting idea. I wonder what would happen if that was put into effect

In Adelaide (Australia), people are given a large green bin on wheels (recycling) and a much smaller black bin on wheels (garbage).

That is what they can use for waste disposal. Anything extra they have to cart to the dump themselves.

I am not actually against recycling, but I do think that garbage disposal should have a limit. One was recently imposed where I live, at the same time that recycling was streamlined. We can only put out two garbage bags or bins per household per collection. That is, in my opinion, a HUGE amount of garbage. I put out somewhere around two 1/2 bags a week, except when I do major cleanups.

I wouldn't mind seeing the pickup limit cut to 1 bag per house per collection... even that is a lot.
