For Better of For Worse?

Hey everyone, I don't know how many of you are fans of the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' policy, but I figured this might be relevant for at least a few members. This is Miami Dade County's (Florida) new policy and procedure for recycling. It makes things a lot easier, and that's nice I guess, since it will most likely encourage people to do more ( Read more... )

I agree, it is a good idea, I was playing devil's advocate mainly. But truthfully, that's a terrible assumption, obviously if you condition (or get a person used to) an easier manner of doing things, its logical that anything with more effort would be proportionally harder to them. I'm not saying it outweighs the benefits, as I said, I was playing the devil's advocate, so to speak, but as I said that I assumption, I can't agree with.

Eh... you can always present the "If A, then B" argument. I wouldn't presuppose that everyone is going to pass up the more difficult things because recycling is suddenly a cakewalk-- heck, people might even say, "Well, now that my recycling takes up less time, I have time to (cook more meat-free meals/get more exercise/spend more time with the kids/etc)".

In any case, I see a neutral or positive reaction, not some eco-doomsday. :) Let's not lose faith in humanity juuuust yet.

I wasn't expecting a doomsday, but I see what you mean lol. That's a valid point, but not all people function that way, some people get used to cozy, and are very set in there cozy ways, therefore any kind of change that takes any substantial work is then unappealing to them.

Forget that! If people can recycle, they won't reduce or reuse! I say BAN recycling, and limit people's garbage pickup to 1 bag a week.

Make em work for it.

I was really just being cantankerous... but at the same time, out at my farm recycling only comes every two weeks, and you can bet people do a lot more reusing out in those parts than in the city.

that's actually a very interesting idea. I wonder what would happen if that was put into effect

This is like saying making going vegan easier would make less people go vegan, don't you think?

We have that in some places here. You'd think it would be far less efficient, but I guess if people aren't recycling otherwise :S

Sadly I don't get any recycling bins >:|
