As a further shortcut and because I'm curious and short of time to read all the archives today, what makes the threads nasty, people anti-feeding cats vegan or people anti-having pets?
I was hoping to bypass all that by making my request very specific...
Posts on the topic of vegan cats tend to bring out 'anti-feeding cats vegan food' sentiments in some members. The community seems divided on the issue, but some people have a very strong view on the subject. Personally, I'm against supporting cruelty to feed a companion animal, so I adopted rescue mice =)
However, you may also get the odd, 'why the hell are you buying a pet' comments, though these are rarer.
Out of interest, where do you plan on getting a cat from?

Me too, which is one of the reasons I've never had a cat so far. But the last two houses where I've rented a room have had cats, and it's made me realise what I've been missing. Which is why I'm trying to find a way to have a cat without compomising my principles.

Rescue, natch - thought that would go without saying :) No way am I supporting pet breeders. But then again, logic doesn't always come into it, does it - I must say I think it doesn't make sense being veg*n and buying tons of meat products for your pets, effectively killig lots of animals to sustain just the one or a few. The only reason I would consider it (please note I'm sayig considering) if I found the vegan diet doesn't work for cats is the depression issue, just the same way as I'm not radical enough to refuse conventional medicine when I am sick.

It's easy to support a cruel industry when you just haven't thought about the consequences before - I didn't think de-clawing was so bad, assuming it was like getting toenails clipped, until I read the post about it earlier today. It happens a lot so I thought I'd just check =)
I'm really glad that you're looking to support a desexed (again, I am assuming), rescued, vegan companion animal. In my mind, that's really the only ethical option for 'keeping' domesticated animals in your home.
Again, I do hope it works out and that the other communities have helpful information to assist. You have my support =)
the memories haven't been added to since 2005.
also check out veganpets and feel free to delete your post once you start getting rude comments.
