There have just been a few cat-related posts, so I thought this might be a good time to do some serious research on this subject. I looked in the memories and didn't find anything on this subject, apologies if it's already been covered.
I decided a few months ago that once I get my own place (should be within the next 3 months), I am getting a cat. Obviously, I want to raise it on vegan food. But I would really like to get some assurances that cats can really be healthy and happy on that stuff, otherwise I'll have a dilemma on my hands. I'm a depressive, and cats make me smile, ergo cats are a natural prophylactic and remedy for my condition. But buying meat-based product, even if they're not for me but for my carnivorous companion, would rather have the opposite effect, as would denying said companion things it needs.
Do any of you have happy cats raised on vegan food?
[added on 05/05 at 16:27 GMT] I am not interested in debating the pros and cons of having a cat and/or of feeding it a vegan diet at this point. If/when I decide to do that, I will visit the relevant debating community or say so in my post. I just want to hear from people with happy vegan cats if there are any, of from people who've tried to keep their cats happy and healthy on a vegan diet and failed. I have now been infomed of the existence of the veganpets community, which is great for finding some success stories, but I am not just looking for yes-people. I am just not looking for theory either.
