Has anyone tried coconut sugar? I saw it in my tiny health store, but it's a little pricey for me right now. Pros or Cons? Does it even taste like coconut? If it tastes like coconut, I would love to use it in baking, or even on my oatmeal with some tropical fruit. Mmmm...coconuty ( Read more... )

I've been doing a lot of allergy testing lately and have learned of a sensitivity to sugar cane. I've found that most things can be substituted in baking but what about icing?! Is there any way to make icing without using icing sugar or other cane sugars? Are there other things to ice with that maybe I just haven't thought of?

I want to make s'foof or commonly called Lebanese yellow cakes...The only problem is that the recipe calls for 'super fine golden sugar'. I do not do refined sugar and I have not been able to find it at the middle eastern specialty market. When baking I usually use sugar in the raw or turbinado...What can/should I do ( Read more... )

Is it possible to substitute sucanat with brown sugar in a cake? I would think so, but I've only seen sucanat on pictures, can't buy it here.
