1. Teeth.
Okay so I went to the dentist yesterday. To find out that that *tiny* owie I experienced on Thursday and have seen small revisits of since then MEANS ROOT CANAL. There's a slight shadow on the x-ray which indicates a nerve that will gradually get more painful and then die. Cue
Drama Button.
That in itself is a big groan, because it's a forward facing tooth, so eventually I'll have one obviously dead tooth mussing up my smile. It doesn't look like coming in to the dentist any earlier would have helped, because neither the x-rays, nor a physical examination shows *why* the tooth has gone into revolt.
But this is not why I'm in a rage. The reason I'm in a pant-twist fume is because the tooth in question was the one I was told I needed a filling for 3 years ago, and promptly got. The tooth that *apparently* HAS TWO OTHER FILLINGS ON EITHER SIDE OF IT THAT I WAS NEITHER TOLD ABOUT, NOR CHARGED FOR. What The Hell?
Don't know about you, but that smacks of "WHOOPS! I SCREWED UP, LETS DO THESE ON THE *QUIET*" on behalf of the last dentist. More than that, the other two teeth she suggested I get fillings for? ARE STILL FINE 3 YEARS ON.
I can't help but feel that not only did I get an unnecessary filling, which damaged the two teeth next to it, but it was done so poorly that it has allowed that tooth to get damaged to the point of no recovery.
Mad. MAD I SAY.
2. So that's where mindless memes and websites come in handy.
You are a Flaming Uke!
One of the easiest uke to recognize by sight. Your flamboyantly gay behavior makes it easy for seme to prey upon you, and that is exactly what you want, and you usually have a few tricks up your sleeve as well. You most often have colored hair, designer clothes, and eyes that are constantly roaming, searching for the perfect partner. You are best paired with the Chibi Seme, who will rise to your challenge with their mischievous nature.
Most compatible with: Chibi Seme
Least compatible with: Sadistic Seme, Opportunist Seme
What seme or uke are you? Take the experience at

I am amused. Very amused.
Almost as much as I am by these two sites:
There, I fixed it and
Passive-agressive notes. 3. The proper telly season has just kicked off...
Gacked via
irreparable:
SPN fans
broke twitter by tweeting excitedly last night #Luciferiscoming. P. Diddy roused the God squad by yelling all over HIS twitter to tweet #GODISHERE. This resulted in a legion of fundies tweeting for God... b.c of fans of a genre tv show.
Subesquently, Misha Collins, tweeted an hour ago that everyone needed to make #PDIDDYISSCAREDOFHISTV a trending topic on twitter. It's remarkable the power that man has, b.c his followers and their followers and fans of the show are doing exactly that, before Misha threw down the gauntlet of a cupcake eating on horseback contest to P. Diddy and and P. Diddy thought Lucifer really *was* coming.
And no, I've not watched the Season Premiere yet. I've got it for tonight, along with The Vampire Diaries.
4. Arts
It had been a while since PLB and I had visited the National Portrait Gallery, so we went to see both the
Gay Icons and the
BP 2009 Portrait Award.
One thing I like about the Portrait Gallery, is that the subjects are often as important as the media and execution. In the case of the Gay Icons exhibition, it had another level of interest, because of who had selected the portraits on display, and had provided the write-up on each figure selected. The thing I took away most from this exhibition was the range of inspiring and interesting people - who I know *nothing* about. I've got me some edumakashun to get.
This was a much more pleasant space to walk around in, mainly because it had a fee - the Portrait Award didn't, and the mess of people made that space one I didn't linger in.
The 51 exhibitors and their paintings for the Award can be viewed from the link above. What struck me was the huge number of photo-realistic paintings on display: the technique was so tight that it was impossible to see the brush work. Sometimes that's nice, but the moods from such pieces are often cold - both from the artist, and from the subject painted. There wasn't much play going on this year. However, there weren't many celebrity paintings either, which is nice.
5.Japanese sweets and delights from China Town
During Frightfest, PLB and I had a number of hours to kill between two of our films, so we took ourselves off to
Tokyo Diner (hee! Webcam! Watch people eat!), for some nice, solid Japanese food. I worked up the courage to at least thank them in Japanese, and didn't mangle it too badly, for they responded. Phew.
But after that we wanted something sweet, so I dragged PLB down Picadilly to
Minamoto Kitchoan for some proper wagashi.
This store is terribly posh. Everything is beautifully presented, and the sweets are seasonally produced. Prices are steep, but that's not so terribly surprising.
PLB had
Oribenishiki (chestnut and sweet red bean paste wrapped in cake) and a
Kamakuranone (sweet red bean paste wrapped in rice cake), and I had a
Kohakukanume (Plum wine jelly with green plum, although I ate it straight from the plastic wrap, and missed the gold leaf) and a
Sakuranbo (Japanese cherry covered with jelly). Besides wanting to try them all anyway, I'd definitely go back for the plum wine jelly.
I had reason to go back to this part of town a couple of days later (needed the bready-type tofu, rather than the cheese or jelly type), and I also picked up a
char siu baau (steamed pork bun) from a street vendor and a lychee
bubble tea from Candy Cafe on Macclesfield Street. I missed bubble tea, as Adelaide had a tonne of bubble tea bars and I could always grab one, alongside black sesame icecream, so I was really pleased to see them here in London. Candy Cafe also do
Kaya jam on toast. Ah nom nom nom. I'll be back there again, I'm sure.
6. Writing
So I've successfully avoided doing any more to my house elf story, I've not managed to come up with a viable idea for
bleachness's Ishida competition(s) (I may try and do some arts...), but I am pleased to note that
zeemverse and I have restarted work on our collaborative Antarctic fic, and we still like what we did so many moons ago. Hurrah!
7. Cat
Sad news. My fur-kid, who is now 15, has been diagnosed with an erratic heart beat, caused by heart disease. I'm still waiting on all the details about medications etc., and I'm glad I'll get the chance to see her in October, for it looks like she is not long for this world. It sounds as though she is still feisty though - from Fur-kid stepmum: She did more than swipe the other day - there were teeth in the mix too. She was adamant that the blood pressure thingy was NOT going on her tail. No. Way. Luckily the animal hospital had a different device that could be attached to monitor her properly.
Fur-kid's extended family are descending on London in early October: Fur-kid's stepmum is here for a conference, and is taking some time out to spend time with Mr O and Ms E, as well as myself and PLB, and the adoptive parents of one of fur-kid's brood (who all got off the merry-go-round years ago) are here at the same time.
8. London Film Festival
The
London Film Festival list of films is out. While PLB and I will only be around for three days of it, this does not mean that there's not still a bunch of films we want to see. Trying to clip the list down now to something manageable.
Landlord is here with a plumber to fix the leaking tap in the bath. Yay.
