mrslant will be aware that in the middle of a conversation on Thursday I went 'huh. tooth is a bit owie' - and that hasn't gone away. So I needz me a dentist. Yayz.

Question for all you London folk:

After google-fu, I note that there are a bunch of private dentists close to where I live that offer initial consultations with all x-rays around the 70 pound mark. But then there's one I found which was 35 for the same stuff.

Um, why? Can any one explain the dramatic difference in price? The cheaper dentist is approved by all the major insurance funds if that means anything about their quality of work.

I do have insurance, so I can go to a better dentist (it will totally cover the services of the cheaper dentist, and most of the other bunch's costs), but I'd rather know if the first ones are just the snob dentists, and that's why they're high, or if there's a reason why the cheap one is cheap.

Also, any dentist recommendations gladly received, especially if they're female dentists with tiny fingers...
