This morning I passed the 20,000 word mark in my 200-words-a-day exercise begun on January 14. Today is the 101st day. Although I've skipped the writing a handful of times, other days I wrote more than the quota, so it turns out I've kept pace pretty well. At this rate I could write a substantial novel in 500 days.

This morning's effort at writing comes up empty. But the emptiness is not frustrating, it is beautiful. I was panning for gold but suddenly realized the water is the purest and sweetest in the world. Who needs precious metal? I want to sit here all day drinking, letting the stream run through my fingers, feasting my eyes on the play of ripples. My ( Read more... )

1. When enthusiasm strikes, I habitually try to change too many things (I think this happens because I'm trying to make my life perfect all at once-whatever that means!) and end up running out of energy and ( Read more... )

It worked. I got out of bed at 6:05. By the time I went to the bathroom, fixed some breakfast, set myself up with some yarn to knit another square and sat in front of the light box for 20 minutes, it was 7:00. So then I still had quite a lot of writing to do, and time did not quite feel the luxury I had hoped for.
