13 hours & Adventures with Fire

So apparently I'm recalled now, hooray. Parks and the jumper start wednesday too since they still haven't got the order worked out. I am happy for the money, but couldn't they have waited ONE more day so that I don't have to show up at my hearing smelling like poop :/

I am bringing a change of clothes with, but my original plan of attempting make up is out the window. I'm bad enough trying to put it on at home, trying to do it in our condemned & crumbling staff house would just earn me some hearty mockery.

I'm failing at being positive, I'm pretty sure that it will go as follows
1. Arrive on time
2. Try not to cry
3. Seriously, try not to cry!
4. Ok now how do I hide the crying, it is making Phil very uncomfortable
5. Awkward car ride back to work while Phil tries to tell me it isn't so bad and I'll probably still be permanant within the next two years.

weee, at least Phil is coming with so I will have someone familiar there.

Oh and did I mention that I fight fires now? Yep, I'm all pro and everything too. On friday when I was coming in for my rabies shot I noticed the air in the park was smokey and it smelt like something was burning. I called the office and told them, they asked if it could be the street sweeper and I said def not. They told me that one of the maintence workers (Ellen) was with them and they'd send her out to check so I hung up and continued investigating.

I parked illegally and marched off into the woods where it looked like the smoke was coming from, this was of course after I did two laps of the area & made a jogger very uncomfortable. I found the fire in the middle of the area circled by the mini train tracks, thankfully it was still very damp and only the grass was burning, slowly too. There was a very wide perimeter of flames so I called the office to confirm the fire and tell them exactly where it was so they could coordinate with 911. At that point Ellen arrived, she suggested we start stomping out the flames that we could while we waited on the pros. So we stomped, and stomped for a while then she went to go out to the main street so she could lead the firemen right to the spot.

I stayed behind to keep stomping, I melted the bottom of my shoes and stunk up my clothes but made a very good dent in the fire. By the time everyone got back pretty much all that was left were the patches too flamey for me to stomp without catching myself on fire. I felt kinda proud of myself, I'm glad to know that I can stay calm in a scary situation. I went to the office after that, stunk it up quite nicely, and got my shot. I suggested that they fix my senoirity on account of my fire-fighting but they just laughed :( Can't blame me for trying though :P

So I did a bad thing today, I bought a Swiffer Wetjet. Ever since their appearance on the market I've been against them as they seem so wasteful, with tossing the cloth out & contributing to land fills etc. Sadly the guy who refinished my floors said that it is the one & only product he recommends for hardwoods. So I am going to try it, even though I feel evil :(

The floors do look pretty though, so pretty it seems a shame that soon enough Penny will have scratched them to bits and the birds will have thrown food all over them. For now though, they sparkle. I wonder how old they are, is it the original floor? Are these woods almost 100 years old?
