So on Friday evening my right ear, the one I had had syringed on Tuesday, started feeling tender. And by the time I went to bed it was quite sore. By midnight I had had enough of not being able to sleep because of the pain, so I took some ibuprofen and managed to get some sleep after that. But this morning my ear was very sore and I was deaf again.
I wandered along to the doctor's, and discovered that while the surgery is now open on Saturdays (it didn't used to be), this is for prior booked appointments only. They do not provide an emergency service. But the receptionist did give me the telephone number of the out of hours cover service and details of the nearest walk-in centre. That was a new one on me. In the past I've tended to go to the nearest hospital A&E department.
So I wandered along to the walk-in medical centre, which was in Peckham, the centre of last year's riots. It's been open since May this year, which is presumably why it was not very crowded. I filled in a form and was then told to take a seat. I waited probably less than half an hour before being seen. I came away with a prescription for oral antibiotics and an anti-biotic spray and with instruction to go and see my own doctor if there was no noticeable improvement by Monday.
So after three days of being able to hear, I'm deaf again. Just in time for an nMC rehearsal! :(
