Bruce went to the emergency clinic for the night last night; we picked him up and took him over, and I took him back to the regular vet this morning. He was showing tremors, which our regular vets were concerned might be the onset of distemper (you know, the other primary ingredient in the vaccine that's supposed to have prevented him from getting parvo), and I didn't want him to be alone for the fifteen or so hours from yesterday's closing time to today's opening if he suddenly went convulsive and/or septic.
Neither occurred, and he was happy to see his people again both times. Definite "Are we home? Aw, nuts," when I took him back to the regular clinic. However, he's still very runny and still not voluntarily eating or drinking, so he still has to have people to do his IV drip and force-feed him and so on. This sucks.
Of course, it's also sucking massive amounts of money, but Spouse and I have an anniversary coming up and we're pretty much in agreement that Bruce's care is our anniversary present to each other. This is part of the reason I married this person. Always marry the person who's exactly as big a sucker for the small fuzzy things as you are.
Wanda and the rest are all still fine. Wanda tends to walk around what Bruce walks through, and it may be as simple as that. This morning it was raining, and so she was tippytoeing around with her face all wrinkled up, and eventually did a fake pee in the hope that it would make me take her in so she could do it on the floor. I laughed, but I am familiar with the "Really, I don't hafta" fake pee, so it didn't work. Sunny used to do it when she wanted to move on to something more interesting, like me throwing her ball. The funny part about this is that Wanda never knew Sunny, but still tries to pull some of the same fast ones on me.
I'm pondering a rewrite requested by an editor and trying to figure out how to go about it. I have also begun a chapter with the filename "Obligatory sex scene," which says something about my general state of mind, and have fiddled about a bit more with the Serious Novel. That's the news on the writing front.
I have also been to the "farmers' market" to pick up cherries, blueberries, grapes, strawberries, and peaches. This may be my favorite time of year after all. Too, these things go well with the cheap salmon also available there. Lunch a couple of days ago was a mountain of fish, a mountain of fruit, and a couple of funsize Hershey bars. This was followed by a nice spicy mostly-veg and chicken stir fry (and ice cream). Some days I actually do eat pretty well. Then I get worried about Bruce again. Then the diet gains in magnesium or manganese or whatever the heck mineral it is for which chocolate is actually a good source.
