Puppy News: Update

Bruce went to the emergency clinic for the night last night; we picked him up and took him over, and I took him back to the regular vet this morning.  He was showing tremors, which our regular vets were concerned might be the onset of distemper (you know, the other primary ingredient in the vaccine that's supposed to have prevented him from getting ( Read more... )

Always marry the person who's exactly as big a sucker for the small fuzzy things as you are.

Quite possibly the soundest marital advice I have seen on LJ. Keep it up.

Fingers crossed for Bruce. Poor pup.

I always endeavor to be of service. ;)

Poor pup indeed. On his behalf I'll welcome and thank all good thoughts sent his way.

I am glad he's feeling well enough to notice that it wasn't home and be disappointed! That has got to be good.

Is it possible the vaccine wasn't good? Or just more likely its a different strain? I am refusing to think that Wanda will get it. Denial has its uses, right

I'm hoping it's just different genes leading to different weaknesses -- they certainly LOOK as though they have two fathers, or if only one, one who donated a pretty fair medley. It could also be a different strain of virus from the vaccine, though, and so we're doing a lot of bleaching and scrubbing to keep from bringing any virus from Bruce to Wanda. She's way more fastidious about some things than he is, so she may have simply skirted around whatever he picke up and somehow ingested (licked paws would be plenty). We're wondering if I shouldn't just pack up and take her to quarantine elsewhere -- parents' place, your place, wherever we can put her -- as soon as possible. On the other hand, if it's incubating in her already, that's hardly fair.

Wow - if you don't know where he picked it up, how do you keep her from finding it on her own, too?

If she got it at the same time, or from him, is there a date you'd know by - like if she is healthy this Saturday, does that mean you don't have to worry? I take it that you are disinfecting because the germs are still not done, and you could bring them in from transporting Bruce?

Glad to hear there's some improvement and hubby is understanding. He'll recover fully, I'm sure, with a little TLC. You're mad getting a puppy with your own on the way, but it's great to swap puppy storie and you're the resident expert :-)
