"Discrimination against white males"

Pat Buchanan tells Rachel Maddow that whites are victims of discrimination.

The video on YouTube was taken down, but check out this news article, which includes this quote from Buchanan: "White men were 100% of the people that wrote the Constitution, 100% of the people that signed the Declaration of Independence, 100% of the people who died at ( Read more... )

African Americans, other non-white people, and anti-racists have been talking about white males for years, because they are the reason we have this racialized system we live in. White men aren't bad - I love many of them. I wasn't speaking against white men; just this one who thinks this country was built by and for white men and he sees it as fact, not racism.

You are hearing more about it now because we have a black President and white men feel threatened. People are in denial about their subconscious racial thoughts/beliefs/ideas or whatever you want to call that part of them that has definitely been affected by our racialized society.

I recommend taking a serious class about racism in America or more than one and read some books about it. Some people would like to think we're past that, but we're not.

Check the TV - especially popular programs and count how many whites vs. non-whites are depicted. How many in commercials. There are more non-whites than there used to be, but there are still way more whites.

How many CEOs of big corporations are white men vs. anything else? It hasn't changed that much - just a little. But whites, & especially men, are scared that they're going to lose control and power and that might also mean wealth and it could affect their quality of life, so they're making these absurd statements about how they're being discriminated against.

If you want to be a good journalist, you should learn about the history and state of racism and classism in the U.S.

BTW, what do you mean, "The rest of the class cringe ten girls, as we listen this professor ruin his future any amd many bosses" - did you mean "her future and many bosses"? What makes you think her current boss isn't a male? When women fought for the right to vote, who were allowed to vote? Who were the bosses then? The same as most bosses now, mostly. If women didn't speak out for the right to vote, they never would have gotten it. Do you think this woman should stay in her place and be controlled by her potential white bosses?

Some professors will get off on a tangent at times and maybe she's not explaining it well enough. Here is a white male professor who I think does a great job of explaining the history of race and class in America in a short lecture (fast forward 2 1/2 mins. since it starts with static - actually, I think it got corrupted as it is not running well for me - I'm sorry it's not a better video; you can read the review underneath the video): http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/2007/choicesthat/30851.shtml

Basically, do we want our society to keep pushing people down? The youth who are now a high percentage of non-whites in our public schools are not getting as good an education as our parents/grandparents. In another 20 yrs. whites will be the minority. What will our country be like then? Are you going to fight against discrimination of whites or are you going to try to do something to help make the future leaders better leaders? Republicans used to speak out against complainers, but now they are the complainers. Let's do something to make our future better.
