Got this lovely idea from
dreamer_98, who got it from others... Yea, you get the point.
So, here are seven songs that I think kick major ass and that are brand-spankin'-new for 2010 (or, rather, the first half of 2010).
Enjoy. :)

--I'll keep saying it: this is Jack White's best effort yet in his world of Create-A-Band. The Raconteurs were okay, but what he needed was a woman in the mix. And Alison Mosshart is beyond good. In fact, she is even better than White sometimes.

--I am addicted to Twin Sister these days and if after hearing this you are not as well... Then I am not sure I'll ever fully understand you. ;)
So mellow and layered, pulling out all the stops of the post-rock-indie-ambient scene - and mastering it.

--Interesting single-cover notwithstanding [lol], seriously one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. And what makes it so awesome is the fact that it sounds like a slice of 70's perfection... but it is from the here and now. Every time I hear this I want to put on roller-skates. That is saying something major, people... 'coz I sure as hell don't skate.

--This particular song (because every Memoryhouse track, thus far, is outstanding) evokes some deep emotions out of me. And it is no wonder: floating female vocals and a haunting wave of sound, looping over her voice like hazy magic. And it samples music from Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind! What more could you ask for?

--Well, I've recommended this one everywhere I can already, but that is only because it is so worth it. Badu's usual delivery of smooth lyrics with a conscience is so on point in this track, to the point of being almost painfully good. And it is a great example of how well a video can work with a song - sure, there is 'controversy' (which is really ridiculous), but it is so far beyond shock value for me. It is sublime in every way.

--It is every segment of the 90's that I recall loving and I am more than happy to see a resurgence of girl-led groups of this kind of garage-rock. It makes me think of all those bygone-bands: The Breeders, Luscious Jackson, Veruca Salt. And that makes me happy.
But, of course, it wouldn't work at all as just a reminder - the song has to stand on its own. And, for my money, it does. I had to slowly warm up to the Dum Dum Girls... and I am glad to say that I have.

Honestly, I fell for this song with the first line (and how it is repeated, all light and other-worldly). This song, to me, is the sound of love and of affection and of all the mysteries of the mystical. And if every other track is the same as this one, then I see The Ruby Suns going very far indeed. Plus, check the delicious way the music switches up a bit at 3:01 - just adds to the amazing-ness.
Must admit to finding it difficult to narrow things down. I could have made this list very long [lol]. But I plan on doing more soon. :)
