"Top 5 Xena/Gabrielle moments"
I suppose I could take this to mean any type moment... so, I probably will. From funny to sad to sweet and everything in between. ;D
1) When Xena pulls Gabrielle up from the water to give her mouth-to-mouth.
Oh hell yes. I love this episode in its entirety anyway, but this moment is funny and subtextual (bordering on just plain ol' maintext) and Xena's pout/deflation is PERFECT.
And Gabrielle's self-absorbtion is pretty great all the way through, but not better than in this moment in Fins, Femmes and Gems

2) Gabrielle picking up a weapon again to save Xena.
Almost my favorite moment ever in the entire run of the show. Love Gabrielle's look from where the chakram is coming from and to where the chakram is going - the shock, the fear, the look of someone who has stopped breathing. And Xena, when she falls so heavily to the sand, numb and in pain. Even though Xena is begging Gabrielle to stop and Gabrielle is begging Xena to get up, so much more is being said beyond the physical. They are having a whole conversation in two sentences, a conversation that sums up their past three years together.
If not for When Fates Collide in S6, the show could have ended with this episode and that defining moment between two characters.

3) Xena and Gabrielle talk before Gabrielle leaves with Perdicus.
Angst of the best kind, subtext coming out from the shadows and a kiss. What more could anyone want in a moment between these two?
Love Xena's obvious pain at Gabrielle leaving, the desolation in the way she hugs Gabrielle and in her standing - alone - in the church (temple).
And Gabrielle's little smile/laugh when Xena says, basically, that marriage is not for her - our little bard knows this and she knows what is going on.
Again, saying so much with so little. Excellent moment.

4) The look Xena and Gabrielle share across balconies.
Honestly, I could use When Fates Collide for all five picks, but I didn't go the easy route [lol]. This moment, though, this moment just made everything REAL.
They don't know each other at all, they are different people with separate lives... and still, over the balcony edge and in the middle of the night, they both seek out the open air.
And they find one another again, another meeting of the eyes.
But this time everything else is revealed that other episodes only hinted at: interest of a romantic nature, desire, longing, shyness... It is the perfect moment, in this show and beating out loads of other shows, too.

5) Singing in the cracked temple.
I LOVE The Bitter Suite, every single inch of it.
But I do love this moment a little more than the rest (I was torn between this and the moment Illusia!Xena kills Illusia!Gabrielle, however...).
It is full of passion - both of great love and great hate. And the colors of their outfits really stand out (which is a topic for another post).
Anyway, it is the stand out to me in a stand out episode. Love it when they look angry and broken at the same time... and it is due to one another.
Excellent.
I could pick a billion more. XD
