For
rowan_d, that cruel woman...
*steadies self*
And I quote: "Top Five Times You Wanted to Smack Gabrielle"
This will be hard. Like REALLY hard, because there are only a few times I've wanted to... maybe smack Gabrielle. And even then, it wasn't a hard slap and it was purely from subtext-frustration... Hmmmmm. So that might have to suffice, sorry to say.
rowan_d's posts are so articulate and cool. This one will be retarded. XD
1) Gabrielle running off to be with a guy.
Yea, that could be all five for me... 'coz it has been five men, basically, that she has had an interest in. And is it really worth a smack? Ehhhh, not totally. A tiny slap perhaps.
But this one will pertain to those inconsequential boys/men - like Philius in The Titans or Talus in Death In Chains. I mean, yes, character development and she is pretty heterosexual and blah blah blah... [tiny smack to Gabby's cheek]
Stick with Xena, girl. You don't have a clue as to how important she will become to you!*
-*me, talking to a fictional character like she is here. Uh huh.

2) Gabrielle marrying Perdicus.
Okay. I mean... OKAY, subtext is so freakin' heavy in this one. But even if you took that away and it is just two friends (really close friends who really love each other. A LOT.) When Gabrielle actually does it, actually marries Perdicus and I KNOW she sees how it is affecting Xena. Xena looks crushed and lost and ALONE. And Gabrielle goes right out that door.
[SMACK!]

3) Gabrielle's unawareness of an emotionally wounded Joxer.
For a sensitive lady, she was blind as a... well, blind person, in Comedy Of Eros.
The guy is devastated and its like she doesn't see (or doesn't want to). And both seem kind of cold for a character like Gabrielle. Plus, it happens a couple of times, like she is more irritated with him than anyone and - while sometimes it is warranted - not in this particular moment. Bad Gabrielle. [smack]

4) Gabrielle trusting Kraftstar.
And did I spell his name correctly? Anyway.
His name alone would have given me pause, but not Gabrielle. This won't be a full-fledged smack, though... 'coz I do believe Gabrielle was struggling for a connection because Xena was consumed with Caesar-hatred in The Deliverer. But to chose some dude with a very ambiguous religion is NOT a smart choice for a conversation companion. [half-hearted smack for lack of judgment]
And these two things (Xena consumed with Caesar and Gabrielle picking bad friends) led to the best shit ever, story-wise, but hard stuff for our two gals.

5) Gabrielle agreeing with Archangel Michael.
After all of this - the pain and the love, the joint death - I just don't buy that Gabrielle would agree to kill Demon!Xena in Fallen Angel.
But she agreed and so... SMACK!
Not cool, Gabrielle. NOT COOL. You'll forgive Callisto (who was boring as hell with her wiped memory), but you'll just hack your 'best friend' to pieces? WTF?
