Good News Bad News

Well, my luck finally ran out today. You see, Virginia, has this rather stringent requirements regarding ID when you desire a Virginia Driver’s license. Interestingly enough there seems to be no requirement to proving the ability to actually drive involved in getting a Virginia Driver’s license. But I digress. At any rate, my Utah (Class A Commercial) Driver’s license expired in January, whilst I am still in the process of gathering the necessary reams of material necessary to prove I am who I say I am. Why the DMV is so strict but the Virginia Revenue Service will take my word for it I am who I say I am is a mystery. But again I digress. The consequence of this is that for several months now, I have been driving without a valid driver’s license. At any rate I was on my way into work this morning as usual. I had just got to the area where the speed drops from 55 to 40 when I saw flashing blue lights in my rearview mirror. Just great, I am running a little late for work, and now this. So I pull over, and I am informed that I was doing 66 in the 55. I probably was, as I was distracted and not paying a lot of attention to how fast I was driving. Well, I handled the stop properly, and would have gotten off with just a warning. But. I have no driver’s license. So not only did I get cited for speeding but for driving without a valid license. And I have until the 26th to procure me a valid Driver’s License. Well, I have taken steps to acquire the final piece of identification I need. Which if I am lucky I should have within a week. The down side is until I can procure a valid DL I have to take the long way round to work, because I need to avoid the area which this cop patrols, as he will be watching for my car and the last thing I need is to be pulled over again.

Now for the good news. I was talking to one of my regular customers. And he mentioned the job he has. Better pay, better hours, and none of the headaches that my job brings. He even offered to put in a good word for me if I wish to apply there. I am definitely going to do so, as it has become increasingly apparent that I have no business in retail. I lack completely the temperament and personality necessary. So I may soon be changing jobs to a better one. Hurray. Well, let’s not count my chickens before they hatch. Switching jobs right now might prove difficult as I do not have any identification. But still, to be able to make plans again. To have real days off. Well, a guy can dream.
