Half truths are still lies

Apparently I'm being accused of hiding behind a cloak of anonymity, which for some somehow lessens the credibility of what I say.  On the contrary, I feel posting the truth incognito helps to keep things focused on the issues here, rather than on who I am, whether I'm so-and-so's friend, or must have an ax to grind, too much time on my hands, or whatever.  Everything I've posted has been info from eyewitness accounts, and my take on what I've seen and experienced, and I believe I've been clear on which parts are which.  If you're still unclear, feel free to let me know, and I'll do my best to clear things up for you.

Speaking of clear (or unclear, as the case still seems to be for some), Jodi finally took the so-called high road and decided to post her side of what happened back in January, as well as the events that took place a few weeks ago that brought down SD-1.  She admitted those problems were between the mods/admins themselves, and points out that the hacking happened the day after the disgruntled admins resigned...no comment was made however stating that the hacking was done (and this is guesswork on my part, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that someone in the know did the hacking and knew just how to hit 'em where it hurts) by these disgruntled fellow former admins.

I applaud the fact that she has admitted to the things that were done back in January (hard not to admit it when it's out there for all to see, but that's beside the point).  It comes a bit late, but better late than never!  But it's still half baked in my opinion (note I said 'my opinion' here), since a huge deal is made about the fact that the names of Jodi's children were exposed, as well as her phone number (sucks to have people calling in the middle of the night - my sympathies on that one) - but the fact that Aliasfix's daughter, while not named, was completely smeared in character, is pretty much glossed over.  I only vaguely remember watching the debate between the mods and Aliasfix and others back in January, but I clearly remember what was said in the files while they were exposed - I believe it was more than one comment, and they weren't pretty.  If it were me, I think I'd take less offense at having my kids' names exposed rather than horrible trash talked about them.

As for Aliasscape - I remember seeing a lot of those conversations in January, too.  Fanfics were disappearing, and she was concerned.  I do remember the admins saying nothing had been deleted, but that wasn't true either.  Aliasscape had been very involved in the fic forum and modded that area as I recall, so it was her area of the boards, and if anyone would notice changes, I suppose she would.  So she asked about it, concerned that fics were being lost and the whole situation swept under the rug.  Apparently she managed to run the entire mod team ragged with her questions, 'to the point of distraction'.  Maybe they needed more mods to handle one person's questions?  Yes, they did answer her questions, but not to her satisfaction I guess, since she felt the need to persist.  So admission has now been made on the nasty things said about her, but no admission to the fact that fics WERE in fact deleted without warning, so some authors lost their work, and readers lost the stories they were reading and their feedback comments.

Bravo for admitting that people were banned because you don't like them.  And I'm being accused of juvenile antics - please!  Banning people (such as the Garberholics) for things they said about you on their own boards in their private forum is a bit petty, no?  My biggest question on this one has to be - how did Jodi come to know what was said in the Garberholics private forum???  Ah, another hacking perhaps?  Or a wolf in sheep's clothing?  Yes, be careful who you trust out there, those who appear to be your friends might just be out for blood.

As for Old Romantic, keep in mind that there are two sides to every story, and only Jodi's is posted at the SD-1 sites.  Also left out of the admission on Jodi's part is the fact that the names of those who were banned were placed in the word filters at SD-1, making it difficult for anyone to even ask what had happened to these members.

So now we come to today, and the fact that more members have been banned prior to tomorrow's grand reopening of part of SD-1.  And why have they been banned?  For telling their own sides of the story on other message boards, and yes, for supposedly making anonymous comments here, supposedly getting some joy out of the fact that the admins couldn't handle the boards for a few months.

So let me get this straight;  it's ok for the admins to take great pleasure in insulting people and banning people and sending out hateful emails, but it's not ok for anyone to take the slightest bit of pleasure in the fact that the boards fell apart?  Hmmm...sounds like a double standard to me.  The true bashing and flaming that Jodi mentions took place at SD-1 in the admin forums, not here or on any other message board I've visited lately.

Yes, people did want to know what happened, and thanks to people speaking out, a lot more people do - both because of those who've told their stories, and because Jodi finally cracked and figured she had better tell hers.  Too bad some people still only follow Jodi's posts and her side of things, and still see her as the victim here.  One person commented that 'with the members causing the trouble gone' - does this person actually believe that the boards being exposed and the closing were the result of these members who were just banned today?  If she does, and if any of you reading this still think so, you've completely missed the point.  The trouble at SD-1 came when problems among the mods and admins got out of hand, and they themselves couldn't get along. The result was the hacking and exposure of the hurtful things they have said about and done to other people.

To address 's question as to why I give a damn about all this - it's simple.  There are two sides to every story.  Jodi's has now been told freely and without anyone telling her when, where, or what she can or can't say.  Other members on other boards were repeatedly being told to not say anything, don't even ask questions, even though there were people out there who DO know what happened, or a least a good portion of it, and just wanted to share their side of things.  But Jodi did her best to silence them all.  So I decided to post here, yes anonymously, and tell my side of the story, and to encourage those who also had things to say regarding the situation to speak out - it 's not a crime to tell your story or to ask what happened to a place you called home.

I still stand by my previous posts, and haven't changed my views on anything.  I am glad Jodi decided to post today and give her side of what happened.  Just remember that there are two sides to every story, and you don't have a good balance of information until you've talked to both sides.  Listen to those involved, try to have an open mind, and then come to your own conclusions.

One more thing - regarding comments calling me and other posters here 'hypocrites' and bitter - it's just amusing!  The double standard follows you everywhere!  You can have full control, but someone wants to screen comments before they go public, and he or she is a hypocrite.  For the record, not one post has gone unscreened or been deleted (other than double posts, or those deleted by the commenter herself before it was unscreened) - they're all here for everyone to read.
