Control issues abound

Jun 24, 2007 11:44

I like being right.  I mean who doesn't?  I admit I'm not always right, but in this case, I believe I'm absolutely right.  Someone has control issues, and I think it's pretty easy to see who that someone is.

Below is a portion of the new announcement that went up at the Temp Boards today, regarding the fate of SD-1.  Yes, the fate of the boards has changed yet again.  And yet again, things are being spun to make you believe that it's all being done in your best interest!  Wake up and smell the coffee kiddos, someone is leading you down the primrose path here!

Here's what I see - after coming out with the sad story of no longer feeling safe at SD-1 so they must close, members are given one last chance on the Temp Boards to find friends, give out blog & email addresses (I thought we were concerned with Internet safety here???), website links, and fic locations.  After several days of people posting links to other websites where they can be found (and some of those links were deleted, mind you - can't have competition now, can we?  Wait, what competition, I thought SD-1 was closing for good?), we get a new message this morning announcing a change of heart.

First off, we would like to thank all of you who have either posted, PMed or emailed us with words of support, and well wishes. They have meant more to us than you could ever imagine. After reading these messages we have decided to reevaluate our initial decision to close the board.

here if you want to read the full message - let's get to the point!>

Once again thanks to all of you who took the time to share your feelings with us. As you can see they really did make a difference.

Best regards,

The Administration of SD-1

ETA: Thank you to all the people who have alerted us to the fact that the PM system on this board has been used to notify people of sites that have been flaming both SD-1 and the administration.
Due to this the PM function has been turned off. We're sorry but honestly these juvenile games are getting ridiculous. If you need to contact us we can be reached at admins.sd1@gmail.com. Once again we're sorry that everyone has to suffer because of a few.

Let's start with the  end of the original part of this heartfelt message, where Jodi tells everyone that by sharing their feelings with them (anyone else wondering who all is included in 'them' at this point?), it really did make a difference.  *violin music goes here and pass the tissues*  Yeah, made a difference alright!  It was clear that everyone was moving on, finding other places to gather and other places to post fics/artwork, and yes, stories and artwork and conversations and groups CAN still exist outside of SD-1!  I believe THAT'S what made the difference in their decision to keep the boards open - the fact that people were moving on and finding a way to have fun outside of SD-1.

Let's move on to the end of the message, where she edited the post and added some bold text, pointing out that people have been using the PM system at the temp boards to *gasp* talk to each other!  More control for ya there, people - strict instructions were given on how to post your location in the Locator Thread, and even those that followed the instructions had their posts edited or deleted.  What is a fangirl to do???  She (or he) uses her (or his) noodle, and uses the PM system to let others know that there are other sites out there.  It's true, I've seen them!  :D  Will wonders never cease?

Oh, but supposedly these sites are flaming SD-1.  Now there's something I've yet to see on these other sites I've visited.  I know of at least one site where you're not even supposed to mention SD-1 - even saying you miss it might get you edited or at least a mod reprimand, so no flaming going on there.  Another actually does allow conversation about SD-1, and even lets you discuss your own experience, or what your friends have shared with you.  No flaming there either, just sharing information.  I must be missing these so-called 'flaming' sites.

As a result of these 'juvenile games' as Jodi called them, the PM system has now been turned off, so the only way to communicate on the Temp Board is to post in the open, where it can be seen by all and edited as needed.  I guess flaming is considered a juvenile game by this administration?  They ought to know - anyone who witnessed the SD-1 admin files while they were exposed got an eyeful of some pretty intense flaming!  So it's ok for them to play juvenile games/flame people (both in their formerly hidden threads and by email), but it's not ok for members who were the recipients of the flaming back in January to share their stories with anyone who might ask on another message board....got it.

Ok, the last sentence is my favorite part, and once again proves my earlier point(s):  They're 'sorry that everyone has to suffer because of a few'.  Well ain't that the truth, only those pointing the fingers in this case need to take a good look in the mirror, or at least step back, lay off the booze and get a good look at reality!  First off, I have serious doubts of there being any sorrow on the part of the administration of SD-1, unless it's sorrow over getting caught showing their true colors.  Second, yes, everyone is suffering (the loss of SD-1, not the loss of PM privileges on a temp board!) because of a few, but lets place the blame where it belongs - squarely on the shoulders of the admins who couldn't keep a civil tongue in their heads even amongst each other, which is what started the whole fiasco in the first place.

So SD-1 may be back in limited, highly controlled form - whoopee.  Isn't this from the group who came in on New Year's Day announcing little or no rules, only guidelines, the main one being, as I recall, 'Don't' piss us off!'?  Looks like they should have taken their own advice, hmmm?  Would have saved a lot of headaches all around.

I believe today's activities at the Temp Board prove the point I made in my last post, that someone does indeed have control issues.  The Temp Board is highly controlled, conversation is limited on other Alias boards, links to other boards where you are allowed to speak freely and actually ask questions are deleted, and the new SD-1 will be so tight it will squeak.

Yeah, that sounds fun.  Good luck with that.

alias, truth, sd-1, control issues, juvenile games
