I just upgraded to 12.04LTS and the four available themes are not good--the two most attractive use font colours that are virtually the same as window backgrounds and thus illegible and I don't like the other themes.  Is there a way to either get more choices for themes and icon styles the way I could in 10.04 or change the font colours?

Halp!  I am trying to update my JRE, but the instructions on the website aren't working.  Can someone please walk me through this step-by-step?  Also, my computer doesn't seem to think my su password is correct; is there some way to reset it?

Can anyone either recommend a site to walk me step-by-step through mounting a USB device or actually walk me through it? I have 10.04LTS and can't mount anything, including flash drives, external hard drives, and my iPod. I've looked at community pages for fstab, mount, pmount, and gnome-volume-manager, and cannot figure it out.

I'm having problems with the latest release of Ubuntu and USB memory devices.  Ubuntu is interpreting every single USB memory device, from a memory stick to my iPod to my external hard drive, as root-only for everything, including saving to, altering on, and unmounting the things.  I thought I had a work-around for the iPod, but not so much.  ( Read more... )

I bought an Asus EEEPC, the Linux 900 version. It comes with a modified Xandros, which is horribly out of date and is only irregularly updated. Time to scrap that install and install a real distro.
