Well here we are another 4 months since the last post but that's a helluva lot less than I'd thought it may be! After rereading that post in Dec 2014, it looks to have been a one true rant of the mad ranter. So many words! Things have happened in that arena and we shall see how they pan out in time (deliberate vagueness that will be resolved in time).
Life as we currently see it:
Left the music school. Not enjoying the controlling ocd'ness of the boss that, if you know the character 'Storm' by Tim Minchin which everyone should see because it's funny and beautifully animated, you'd know that working for Storm is not a fun way to spend one's time. Animation here -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhGuXCuDb1U Am now working here and there casually for a good friend and coincidentally my sca apprentice. Mostly from home online so that's a bonus. Admin and bookkeeping so dead easy for someone who's been doing it all her long life.
I'm studying at University of Canberra. Just a prep course to test me and others for our suitability for entry after so many years away from the coal face. First essay went very well (Gemmology: The Practical Applications). First oral presentation went even better (Understanding the Alfred Jewel). In the middle of analysing an online survey about SCA membership retention.
Went to Rowany Festival over Easter. It poured with rain and we were so glad we'd decided to take the easy way out and had booked a comfortable motel for the 6 nights. Many people lost tents and it through much of the event into chaos with the near cylonic winds and downpours.
Post Festival; there is always a before and after Festival. Decluttering gear, more sewing, tree surgeon, Telstra to get the interwebs happening again. Not sure if I should curse the birds that ate through the protective outer coating of the cable and allowed that aforementioned rain to sneak in or not. Our net speed is almost double what it has ever been so there'd obviously always been an issue. Reading up lots of info for Essay #2 the subject of which is not of our own choosing except to take it from a list given to the entire class. So I'm finding out about the European witchcraft trials of the 16/17th centuries. Most interesting on that list. Forgot to mention the prep course is a package deal. If I pass in 6 weeks time then I'm automagically enrolled into the undergrad Heritage, Museums and Conservation degree. In a city full of museums and art galleries it's going to be incredibly interesting. We have a C15th prayer book about to land at the Museum of Treasures which will definitely be getting a look over.
Poking the builders who are, hopefully, about to turn up and throw up a nice new cedar studio in the backyard for me to reignite my jewellery work and possibly teach people down there. It will also declutter the house as having a metal rolling mill does put one off one's drawing when it's plonked in the middle of the table.
Planning the trip to Europe in earnest. Leaving early July and returning mid August. Trip is based around an invitation to attend Raglan Ffaire in Wales in a 12th century castle. Excited or what! Landing in Paris, heading south through the Loire Valley to Spain, back up to Bruges, Amsterdam and across to London, Wales and home again.
In the next few weeks there are birthday events for favourite people (we had ours recently - I made it to 53), household hangouts and project days, lots more uni work and a trip to Perth for their Autumn Gathering SCA event which is primarily arts and sciences oriented and I'll get to catch up with peeps on the other side of Australia (maybe even a sister). Trying out airbnb to get a reference for future stays through Europe as they seem to want one. I have offers of guest rooms but this has a purpose and I'll get a whole house to myself 10 minutes from site. I do like a sleep in so not inconveniencing others is important here too.
Bart, as always, is very supportive, thoughtful, lots of fun and always there for me. It certainly is a turnabout to be married to such a socially outgoing extrovert. Life is always full of surprises and these are some that I'm enjoying immensely.
Goodnight all.
