It's getting harder and harder to keep on top of the various methods of social networking. I started with Diaryland which pretty much went belly up but I spent a lot of time uploading pictures there. Switched over here to LJ, which still get checked regularly although I don't post much and if I do it's because there are family and other friends who refuse to touch Face-Ache-... er... Book! With good reason too. The security there sucks. Also have family that *do* have FB accounts but never look at it or are a little overwhelmed by it's overcluttered appearance. Something that doesn't appeal to me either but I'm fairly enmeshed these days. I can also write something here and if I wish, it can reappear on FB as a 'note' to overcome their 420 character limitation - which drives me nuts. I can use the FB 'note' application to overcome that but it's easier to write something longer here so I communicate to people I care about here.
And now there's Google Plus. Better than FB but a new platform to use. It can redirect posts too. Must check and see if it can redirect here or vice versa. It's a much neater and fun environment with it's little animations. You can write longer posts and add more than just one photo. The security is far better and it's still only in Beta test mode. Google have a heap of money to throw at R&D so I expect it to keep getting better. I only signed up this week after receiving a few invites and it already seems heavily populated by my friends and people I know.
Enough there. Biggest news is that N has a fantastic new job. Has been there a fortnight already. The people are happy because they're well looked after and they're a charitable organisation so they know they're fighting a good cause for people who desperately need it. Aside from the fat pay packet, he'll be receiving a new Honda CRV in October when the Japanese factories have recovered from a slight dip in the ocean. Until then he's getting a stationwagon to tide him over. New laptop, latest smart phone, new furniture for his newly created workstation and a staff he can call his own, which is a first so that's a step up too. It's still IT but it's good IT and he's going to be sent off to do all sorts of training and not be left floundering as has happened in the past on numerous occasions. They're doing things the 'sensible' way. Yay!
It's his birthday soon. I asked what he wanted. Several days later he replied 'I want you to quit the job you're unhappy in, have a long holiday and have time to play with all your projects'. I nearly fell on the floor with delight! Now what do I *really* get him for his birthday?
Needless to say, that plan is in progress. There are a gazillion sca projects on my plate but I'm looking forward to developing a cottage industry that is aimed at both the regular and scadian markets. Any minute now the boss will be back from overseas and I can kick start the process :-D
Now to get ready for work... It's cold. There is severe frost outside and the widget on my screen says it's below zero. Again. Hope we still have chickens...
