Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!

"継往開来 (keiou kairai)" [1]

[BGM 'Nihon Yoitoko Maka Fushigi']

I've no clue, but great quote, huh? (laughs)

This is a four-word idiom that means to inherit the past and pioneer the future. 'Keiou' is written with the words for 'continuation' or 'to continue' and 'round-trip' (oufuku). 'Kairai' is written with the words for 'open' and the 'rai' from 'future' (mirai).

This was sent in by listener Yumi-san from Atsugi. The message reads:
"The collaboration you did with Higashiyama-san during the Johnnys' Countdown was amazing. It was so cool! Satoshi-kun, make sure you don't lose to him and keep doing roundoffs and backflips even when you're 50 years old. I'm looking forward to your spring drama as well."

Man, you watched that? Um, the man called Higashiyama Noriyuki-san is a monster! (laughs) I was surprised, too!

Last year, right? At the Johnnys' Countdown, I did a collaboration with Higashiyama Noriyuki-san. Um, it was for the song 'Nihon Yoitoko Maka Fushigi'. Higashiyama-san did that song before, right?

So in the rehearsal room, when I was going over the choreography with Higashiyama-san, he was like, "Ohno, for this part, the intro, what did you do?" He was asking about when we did it at the Arashi concert.

"Ohno, how did you do it?"

"Oh, Nino and I intersected with acrobatics."

When I said that, Higashiyama-san was like, "Ah, is that so?" Then he walked off to the side as if deep in thought.

"What's the matter?"

"No, I'm just wondering whether to do it."

"Eh?? Nonono, let's not force it!"

Then he said something really cool. "No, but if we do it, it'll liven things up, right?"

Can you even say things like that?? First off, what about your own body? (laughs) Just thinking about it... I mean, it'd been over 10 years or so since he'd done it. And now he was just gonna do it like that?

"Well, we have that stage rehearsal, right? So I'll try doing it once then."

Then later on the stage, his words... "I did it!" (laughs)

But well, isn't that amazing?? Man, what would've happened if he couldn't do it? He's 50 years old! And he's doing roundoffs and backflips! Man, seriously, that was incredible, I thought. I can't match that!

But well, that was an invaluable experience. I mean, we'd been always backdancing for them, for Higashiyama-san, right? As our senior. Who'd have thought, huh? To be standing at the same position, doing a collaboration. Yeah, not only that, but intersecting with roundoff backflips! Man, in a sense that was like a dream come true.

And then for 'Andalusia', it was like, why was I there being given that honour?

I mean, Higashiyama-san was doing that, right? And then (Domoto) Koichi-kun had done it in SHOCK and all, and (Imai) Tsubasa-kun as well, right? Not like I'd ever actually done it before. Um... (laughs) So I just got to be in the middle of that wonderful honour.

Man, I was surprised. Yeah. That was pretty rare. Like in the Johnnys' Countdown, it's pretty rare, right? Um, to collaborate like this and all, we get to show you things which you don't normally see. It's fun to do and I think it's fun for those watching, too. Yeah.

Well, if there are any opportunities this year, I'd like to do that again. I'll do my best this year as well!

That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!

[1] 継往開来 is literally formed from the kanji characters for 'to suceed (someone)', 'continue', 'open' and 'next'.
