Sunnydale

It was a young detective just transferred from LA that made the call to the FBI, ignoring the cynical veterans. They agreed that the M.O. of the latest killer was different - vampires didn’t usually rape their victims, except for the ones that had been rapists in life - and they hardly ever left children alive to tell the tale.

By the time Detective Matt Spicer moved to Sunnydale with his sister, Kristin and daughter, Ellie, almost all the police force knew the truth about the nightlife. They also knew not to involve outsiders, like the FBI, but Spicer just wouldn’t listen. Given the unique nature of Sunnydale made finding this psycho harder than normal towns of similar size.

Nighttime in Sunnydale was bad under the best of circumstances, but the nightly blackouts were scaring even the most courageous of the residents. It was strange…deaths and disappearances due to the supernatural barely registered on the citizen’s self-preservation meter, but this latest evil was terrifying them. It pissed the demon community off a little, but not enough to take him out. Anyone who could scare the cattle was good for entertainment at least.

Plus, he brought in media people and others to document his crimes…which meant more snacks for them.

The FBI’s special team came in and set up their charts and stuff, interviewed the population as best they could, but a lot of the responses were rather bizarre. Garcia was bewildered by the stats she found on the town. It had much, much higher disappearance and death rates than it should have. How did this not pop on their radar before this?

It would be something to investigate after the current crisis was solved.

She did manage to find a personal connection between the killer and Detective Spicer, though. During his travels, the media-proclaimed ‘Prince of Darkness’ had killed Spicer’s parents, but spared him and his little sister. It seemed suspiciously convenient that he would strike Sunnydale just after Spicer and his family moved there.

If the PoD had followed his original plan, he would have been able to capture Spicer’s sister and daughter…continuing the cycle with the daughter that he started with the detective. It sounded rather poetic to the maniac.

As fate would have it, however, he saw another little boy what reminded him of Spicer at that age - or close enough to it for his purposes. He would recreate Spicer’s origins with the new boy, and if that didn’t please him enough, he’d move onto the detective’s daughter.

His mistake was that he picked the wrong house on the wrong night.

Jordy Osbourne was just getting ready to go to the basement when a grotesque man broke into their home and grabbed him. The man was muttering something about a ‘perfect re-creation’ as he shoved Jordy into the closet in his parents’ bedroom. His dad was bludgeoned to death before his mom was raped in front of him.

The man killed his mom just as the moon rose. Jordy’s change was fueled by his rage at his parents’ murders and before the man could make it back to the closet to check on Jordy, the door was shattered by the outward force of a pissed-off werewolf child wanting revenge for his parents.

Jordy was found the next morning, curled up under his parents’ bed, by a neighbor who saw the father’s car in the drive when he should have left for work already. She vomited at the gruesome sight of two people killed and one man literally torn apart.

Then she grabbed Jordy, got him dressed and called the police.

It was clear from Jordy’s interview that the Prince of Darkness had been stopped. But Jordy said that he passed out when his mom died, and the FBI had no reason to doubt that. Shock could do that to a person. What wasn’t clear was who or what had stopped him.

A/N: No Scoobies or dialogue in this one. I was looking in the challenges for inspiration and boom! You got this!
