All that Was Old Is New Again

I mentioned briefly that I discovered that the epic fail of the bottom case on my laptop is a common problem with certain batches of MacBooks (late 2009 and April 2011). And an easily fixed problem at that! I sent off a request for a replacement bottom case Thursday night, and the replacement case was delivered today :D

The issue is just a cosmetic issue really, though the bubbles made it fairly difficult to handle the laptop. I didn't really want to move it around too much. This first happened last year when I was in Japan, remember, shirenu? XD

I thought it was due to overheating, and never thought to check if the issue was mentioned anywhere on Apple's support site. Turns out it's a commonly known problem, and they have a dedicated MacBook Bottom Replacement Program. My laptop is from 2009, I'm no longer covered by warranty, but I still got this replacement kit for free. Huzzah.

[Obligatory before and after pictures]

Side view. Before taking the laptop apart, I was actually worried that there wasn't really anything else keeping dust and dirt out of the computer components. Turns out there's a hard case as well, but the plastic layer has just separated from it somehow. I'm assuming this has got something to do with the plastic not handling heat well? Hopefully something that's fixed for the new bottom case that I've now secured to my laptop.

The replacement kit came complete with screwdriver, screws, and instructions.

The insides of my laptop 8D Mmm, sexy computer components. This gave me a good opportunity to remove dust and stuff from the fan. Wohoo!

New bottom case. Aaaah, that's better. :D
