We went to a bar in Roppongi, and we were the only foreigners there... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE~~~~~~~?!!!!
.... xDDDDD Well, that's because we went to a very specifically themed bar ;D
Yes, you're reading that right. In Roppongi (for whatever reason), there's a tiny Dragon Quest themed bar (a standing bar at that). I had no idea what to expect, but to say I was pleasantly surprised sounds way too mild. I had such an amazing time! @___@;; And I don't even know too much about the Dragon Quest games! Hahahaha xD;;; Christian bought Dragon Quest 9 for the DS yesterday, so that's why we decided to go try this out.
Anyway, you can't freely enter, the bar has several "seating hours", you have to join a group of fellow adventurers in order to get a "seat". The bar is made to look and feel like an in-game inn, and it does so in style. We didn't know that you had to reserve a place at the bar in advance, but we were able to reserve seats for the 6PM seating. We were asked to please show up 5 minutes in advance~ When we came back there was a small line of people lined up outside the bar. One of the bartenders came over and greeted us, confirmed our reservation, handed us a menu and explained that everyone will enter the bar together, so we were to go wait with the others. This got me really hyped up xD;; They were playing Dragon Quest music for us in the queue, and the menu was so fancy and adorable, iiiiih~ All the prices were marked as G instead of ¥ xDD.
We were shown inside, and all the waiters and bartenders were dressed up in Dragon Quest costumes! xD;;; As in, dressed up as inn-keepers/waitresses from the Dragon Quest games. So cool~~~ xD;;; The bar was filled with interesting looking potion glasses, decanters, and tons and tons of Dragon Quest themed items. We got into the main room and were given a table, others were given places around the food counter. Sword replicas from the games were on display, and the food counter had tons of collectible figurines and such placed all around it. There was also a tv screen that had various DQ game commercials playing on repeat xD; The bar played nothing but DQ music ♥
Then welcome greetings, some announcements, and info on how to order. You were allowed to take pictures inside (and with the staff!), but no video. We were given order sheets, so we wrote down our table number, and then wrote down how many we wanted of the things we wanted to order. Made ordering very simple and fun! Then you went to the bar and handed over your order sheet. Ah, and the bartender who took orders kept to the style of the menu and always asked for G (gold) instead of yen. Omg, so adorable xD; Aaand, if you ever wanted to order more stuff you could always get more order sheets from the staff.
The thing here though is that because of the reservation arrangement, each group of customers get 75minutes in the bar. In addition to this you get EXP for ordering stuff. Yes, really. xD; We were given point cards at the end of our stay, and Christian and I had both reached Lvl 4! Hahaha xD;; When you reach Lvl 25 you get a medallion of some sort, and you get to start a new point card. Someone in our group managed to do that while we were there. The staff congratulated them, applauded and gave them gifts :o Anyway, it was just ordering frenzy xD;;; We spent over ¥6000..... though thinking about it, it isn't too bad, just be prepared if you plan to go there that... uhm it's not the cheapest bar in the world.... but then again, that's not why you're there, is it? :P
It was so much fun, though, and everyone there seemed as spellbound as we were. The staff were amazingly sweet, and the food and drinks were delicious!
We had~~~:
Nikuman and curryman shaped as the famous Slime monster *o* ♥
Potions
A drink called SEXY BEAM~~~~ I lold xDDD;
Ikkaku usagi (unicorn bunny) pasta carbonara. This was so adorable, fffff xDDD The waitress was like "we have to change the monster~ will you help me?" And she said a little cute phrase while hurriedly sprinkling the purple stuff all over the plate XDDD aaaaaah it was funnnnn~ hahahhaha
Then at the very end we had these Sandy's Chocolate Sundaes @____@ so rich ashdfjkhsakf absolutely delicious. There were satsuma bits in it!!!!
... ah we actually had more stuff as well, but didn't take pictures, lol xD;;; A passion fruit drink, and a non-alcoholic hibiscus drink~ All the drinks had names relating to various potions and whatnot from the games ^^; Sexy Beam is an attack ;D
Waitress and people having a good time :D It's not a very large bar. I guess they had room for about 20 people each sitting.
I put my Cheki to good use again and asked if we could take a picture with one of the waitresses
Oh and yeah~ you could get exclusive in-game items there. If you logged on to their wireless download play service or scanned some codes with your DSi or cell phone :D Fun stuff. We were also given presents! Everyone there got an exclusive Dragon Quest Summer Festival Slime King fan! xD;; Awesome~ The bar also had various souvenirs for sale, as well as all the most recent DQ games. We wanted to buy a phone strap, but they were all sold out .___.;;; You could also order some of the menu items to bring home. The niku and curryman were on the takeout menu, whaaa adorable~~ xDDD You also ordered the takeout and goods by using the order sheet :D Even if you wrote down all your orders at once and handed them in at the very beginning, the staff would space out the orders for you. We pretty much ordered all of our stuff in our first order, and they brought out stuff a little at a time, not bringing out the desserts until the call for last orders had been announced.
When we were handed our point cards, the waitress asked us where we were from, and literally went "O_O;" when we said we were from Norway, she had to confirm by going "... as in the European country...? 8D;;;;;?". She flattered my Japanese, but I was like "whaaa nooo it's not good at all T___T" to which she replied "... saying it like that just proves that you do know the language ;D". ... xD;;; I guess it does haha. She urged us to please come again if we had time, and to enjoy the rest of our stay in Japan :D Awww, yaaay.
Seriously, though this was such a fun experience. I warmly recommend it, and I do think you'll be taken good care of even if you don't know much or any Japanese. One of the waitresses walked by us in the beginning and stopped to ask us if we were able to read the menu, so I guess she was willing to help out with translating the menu and ordering if we'd been unable to read it.
I want to go again~~~ xD
Souvenirs~! We bought a box of cookies to take home ^_______^ and that's the fan we were given for free~!
If you want to take a look at the rest of the menu and such, the homepage for the bar is
