It's been snowing heavily since 8 a.m. I have not had heat in my house since sometime last Wednesday night. My landlord dicked around Thursday and Friday trying to fix it himself, then finally called a repairman who was supposed to come today.
Notice that well-placed "supposed"?
Yeah, the weather or something delayed him, and finally he told my landlord he would be over at 4:30, so my landlord came over to meet him. And sat waiting in my living room until 5:10, at which point he finally called the repair company and was told that the guy had gotten hung up at another job and my house "will be the first call tomorrow morning."
I want to cry. Tonight will be the fifth night I have to share a twin bed with a four-year-old so that I can be in the same room as the space heater. Tomorrow will be the sixth morning I have to wake up to a frigid house.
I have more reading than it is physically possible to do before my deadline, but I am going to heat up some leftover pizza, crack a beer, and watch Futurama for a while.
(The good news is that I was able to finish my photo assignment in lab today, including the mural print, so I'm ready for the crit on Wednesday. Now if someone would just do my taxes, work on my grant application, write two prose poems, and jot down some notes on my presentation on the lyric essay, I will be all set.)
