Death and dating James Wilson had changed several things about Amber Volakis. The first thing that it had changed was the way that she'd thought about herself in the world. Right now in the real world she had no place. She'd been sitting on the damned bus for what had seemed like forever before she'd been in the room talking to West, and now she understood how precarious her life actually was, and how fragile ( ... )

"Is it really you?" Wilson asked, his voice cracking with such a variety of emotion that he didn't really know how he felt. Part of him wanted to grab her and hold her, feel her body, moving and alive against him. It had been so long, too long, and he needed to know that she was real. Another part of him though, the bigger part, was scared. How could she possibly be here? He'd seen her die, had been holding her when it happened. Her death had torn his life apart and left him alone in more ways than one.

Suddenly, something itched in the back of Wilson's mind, like he'd forgotten something very important, something that meant more to him than he realized. The thought quickly passed though, and his attention was once again solely on Amber.

"Please tell me it's really you."

When he asked if it was really her, Amber turned around quickly, whirling towards a voice that was so filled with emotion. She smiled for a moment, because he was actually here. He was actually here. A part of her wondered if this was someone sort of place between life and death where she'd been waiting and he died.

And then she grinned, and she took a step towards him, seeing the years that he'd mentioned on his face. When she got close enough, her fingers touched by his eyes and the new worry lines that hadn't been there when she'd last memorized his face.

"It's really me, James."

It was almost too good to be true. She turned to look at him and it was as if nothing had ever happened to her. She was gorgeous and young and alive and Wilson barely managed to stifle a soft sob as her fingers gently touched his face.

His eyes closed and he pressed against the light touch, only to open again when she spoke. He looked at her, really looked at her, as if he looked away she'd disappear on him again. Then, suddenly, he pulled her into a fierce hug. "Amber," he whispered, voice breaking just slightly. "I've missed you so much."
