i had an interview yesterday for a different job. still a receptionist, but with benefits, better hours (9-4 mon thru fri) and it's in media, so my commute would be 8 minutes both ways instead of 30.
the interview went really well. at the end, the boss told me i was on the short list, and to expect a call on friday, which rules.
now, if i actually get this job, i have a bit of a problem. i have no idea what to tell my current boss. the thing about him is he's an incredibly nice person, but also, he's a horrifically bad boss. this is the man that tried to get me to show and rent an apartment for him. i told him that showing real estate did not fall under the umbrella of my responsibilities as a receptionist. then again, he also called work yesterday to ask about a student, and we ended up talking about my dad's health and progress for fifteen minutes. he's a very nice person, but as a boss, he expects everyone to do twice as much as they planned to do. our dance teacher didn't want to work saturdays, and she works for four hours on saturday. another teacher, Iryna, didn't want to do in-home lessons, and she does five hours worth.
quitting this job would be like having a really bad break up.
when i was hired, he said, now how do we know you're going to stay? what if another job comes along with benefits? and i said, i can guarantee that i'll be here for a year.
i am a dirty liar. but seriously, i had no idea how effing expensive insurance is. i didn't think it through. also, i needed a job, so saying that was pretty much out of necessity.
i am very nervous about having to quit. especially since the recital is 12/14. but, i just can't be there any more. i hate my job. half the teachers drive me up the wall. some of the parents are so mean they make me want to scream at them. ugh. one bitch yelled at me for about five minutes straight because i was calling her house phone number instead of her cell phone number, and WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE HER CELL NUMBER. i told her that, and she STILL KEPT YELLING AT ME. crazy bitch.
the thing that put me over the edge was monday. i spent the weekend in rochester with ken. i had a terrific time, and decided to leave monday morning (my work day starts at 2, so there was enough time to drive back.) i got in to work at 1:00. i had allowed more driving time in case of traffic, so i got there early. i emailed my boss the minute i got in, to say that i was there early, and asked if i could work from 1-8, since my usual hours are 2-9. i know he checks his emails every five minutes, but he didn't respond to that for forty-five minutes. he told me no, since i had been out on saturday. if i had known, i would have gone to borders or something. he waited that long to trap me there. i was so angry. i told my other boss when he came in, and he apologized. that stuff happens constantly.
