Updated VV with some colorful stuff!

In other news, things may or may not be looking up a little :)

Not so much on the new home front - the guy from Benicia finally got back to us and the place was taken. I wish I hadn't fantasized about it quite so much -_- But we're trying to look into other property management companies/brokers in the area. Last Sunday we saw a place in Martinez, which is across the Carquinez straight from Benicia - Martinez is not as fancy/cute, but it does have its charm (there was a farmer's market right then so we got to check out the downtown and the people a bit. People were friendly, weather was warm, atmosphere seemed peaceful...just seemed smaller/sleepier, and there'd probably be even less to do). The apartment was a cute little duplex on a quiet corner with trees around, with an empty but large yard we would've had free reign on garden-wise, nice updated fixtures, nice floors, only one shared wall and a neighbor who is single and apparently not home much...ach! But the rent was right up against our maximum and the place was tiny, smaller than the one we're trying to leave. So we had to say no, but ugh, SO close -_-

We went back through Walnut Creek just to check it out, and wow that place is frou-frou as hell! Still very suburby compared to SF but with a classy, snobby feel :P I could probably enjoy myself there if I didn't take it too seriously - it's supposed to supply the nightlife for the suburbs nearby and all, and it was quite clean - had gastropubs and all that :P but the rents are a bit over what we want, so we'd have to get really lucky there. It's been rather fun discovering all these towns in the bay area I never had any reason to go to before, I'm getting a better sense of the area at large. It was also an 'R day' (he deserved one after wrangling me around on my birthday) so we came back to SF and I got him BBQ at Memphis Minnie's (reminder to self - I like the brisket, the ribs are a bit too stiff for me, the onion strings are too greasy, but some of the monthly limited specials sound super intriguing) and we went with his family to see Jurrasic World.

I have to say, I was a little afraid - I'd read some review that wished for more from the story/characters/writing, so I was dreading another Pacific Rim, but nope! It was pretty awesome :) The writing did get kind of juvenile and there were a good deal of confusing plotholes, but honestly it wasn't that bad, the spectacle rounded it out well and the action was real immersive in 3d. I would've attended the crap out of that theme park despite the mortal danger (I have bones to pick about the scientific veracity, but whatevs), there were a lot of fun details there. Main lady (offspring of Jessica Chastain and Kristen Bell) and Chris Pratt (who I'd been starting to tire of, but he worked in this) were both silly but fun ("I'm just gonna stand here in this elevator and be handsomely angry!!" "Well, I'm gonna rip my shirt open for no reason but not remove my crazy heels!"). It had a lot of fanservice implemented which I'm fine with in this instance; the product placement was grating in the extreme, but I guess that's what we're gonna be expecting nowadays -_-. I came out with a big smile on my face, I did. 7/10 would view again.

There've been little positive things happening - We hung out with some potential new friends and it was strange but fun - played Suburbia which was amusing :P The weather has started to clear up a little (though the wind's still kind of crazy - still, I've been able to get some work done), I bought the prettiest necklace and ring with some of my bday monies and hopefully they'll arrive soon (still pinching pennies so yay, a treat), The premiere of AMC's Humans was enjoyable and I'm officially interested (admittedly the Britishness helps) and this week I've got the simulcast of "The Marriage of Figaro" at AT&T park to look forward to, and R's sis is going to take me on a candy date for my birthday ^.^ and I think we might go try out Urban Putt with some friends we inadvertedly bailed on earlier, not sure. I hope so. Writing about positive stuff here has had a really good effect on my reminiscences I think (It's super easy to remember the negatives without writing them down, so I have to be careful the rest doesn't disappear). So here's to recalling the good! And to the jury duty gods passing me over next week ^^;;
