deep purple for the win.

you're disappointed? hmm, in the episode itself or just that part about another group after them? because i don't think the aim of the episode was to add that, actually. i think the aim was to screw with dean and sam and show meg while pushing the evil!sammy plotline. then the writers were like: well, we can't just have a hunter die and have no repercussions...

then again, maybe i'm wrong and they aimed for that, too.

i'm not sure what was disappointing, and it may just be that last week and the week before were so good, this one didn't quite match up. i really did think possessed!sam was too evil, too flamboyantly and excessively badass. i can't explain it very well and it's mostly a personal preference - i like my evil more subtle and less cackling. i liked possessed!sam in bobby's house, and i liked some of his taunting of jo, and i did need to take a private moment after he shot dean and was standing on the dock looking down at the water, and he was convincing as earnest!didn'twanttokillanyone!sam. i dunno, it's mostly a vague unease or something. some of the episode really was really good, and i didn't dislike it, i just didn't love it with the whole of my squealy fangirl heart. (like i did nightshifter. there was no bad in that episode. none ( ... )

>>i felt that sam's flamboyant evil was in character with meg, y'know? i mean, she wasn't exactly subtle, and jared was playing sam as being possessed by her. <<

oh, good point, i hadn't thought of that. it makes a lot of sense. but it's also one of the things i didn't like about meg - she seemed kind of typically overdone and obviously evil. which also makes sense why i didn't like those parts of possessed!sam. but it is really clever of the ptb and jared to play it that way, and a nice clue for people who were paying attention (and who apparently weren't me >.maybe other hunters knew what killed pastor jim and caleb and didn't think they could fight it? or bobby got the word out that it was dead after they exorcised meg-the-demon (the first time). no one was on its trail because they didn't think there was anything to hunt. whereas whoever's hunting steve whatshisface's killer is assuming it's still alive ( ... )

i think we're all ready for some silly. bring on the alligators and zombies! :D

i did like the different ways the boys dealt with sam's possession, and i think dean is so convinced sam will be ok (either because he won't go evil or because dean will save him from it) that he just can't deal with sam's destiny any other way. he doesn't think there's any other option - sam WILL BE FINE, no use planning for the eventuality that he's not. but sam is at least half convinced he's going to turn evil, so he's all with the planning for that future. it's interesting to watch and i think the ptb do a good job with it.

altho all the scenes with sam begging dean to shoot him, and freaking out because he'd killed someone, that was just the demon playing with him and dean. altho also i think it was close to what sam would really do and say under the circumstances.
