it's january and i'm back on my snowflake bullshit!

Jan 03, 2024 22:58

i'm not feeling particularly fannish but i love snowflake because everyone else is. and it's really fun to read about other people's relationships to their fandom(s) and their fellow fen and all the weird and creative shit they do.

anyway. maybe i should do the first two challenges. >.<

challenge #1 - update your fannish info!

honestly, the stuff i said last year is still true, but i'd add good omens, the sandman (comics and tv), the mcu, and doctor who (both casually). my fannishness is generally kind of basic in that i like stuff and want to talk about it with other people and that's kind of it. i do enjoy a lot of fanart tho.

the fandoms of my heart are poison elves (altho it's long over) and spn (altho i bowed out of the show in the middle of s8) and that probably says something about me but i have no idea what.

i honestly don't think i have the energy to go full ham any more but i love fandom as a thing. seriously, fandom is my fandom.

challenge #2 - set some goals!

i don't have many:

1 engage with people in places that aren't tumblr.
2 finish more than one story for writing group (and if people want you to continue the space truckers just say no).
3 finish more than one cross stitch project. i mean really, self, you have no excuse.
4 actually talk about the stuff you're watching and reading.

and my one non-snowflake new year's resolution, which is to eat unfancy takeout on the fancy plates while wearing the fancy dress and shoes i bought for friend r's wedding last april.

i finished one - count it - cross stitch project in 2023. it's appropriately fannish tho.

now i just need a nice square frame for it.

in totally other news i worked from work yesterday and today and it's quiet because classes don't start until february. one of my pi's is doing a non-credit workshop in a couple weeks - he's an amateur watchmaker so it's a watchmaking workshop - and he called me today to discuss how to set up registration for it and then his wife got on the phone and made things a. more confusing for him, and b. more difficult for me. >.< i'm going to ignore what she suggested so as not to make more work for myself. (he's a nerdy vaguely luddite guy. i like him and he's not usually high maintenance until he is.)

my roommate seems to have come home with covid. >.< she home tested and it was very very lightly positive and when she panicked and couldn't think of what to do i said "you call in sick tomorrow and get a pcr because they're more reliable than a home test". she called her doctor instead. not a terrible idea! but she didn't actually go in and even if your doctor listens to your symptoms over the phone and says yeah, sounds like you have covid, you should get tested anyway to be sure. she's going to do it tomorrow and in the meantime she's quarantining in her room and masking around the house and i'm masking around the house and she'll get through it and be fine. at least she's not super sick.

for nye i went to my sister's and we ordered chinese food and watched lotr as is tradition and zoomed with the mothership on new year's day and it was very chill. her couch is super comfortable to nap on but hard to sleep on for a whole night.

oy roommate, snowflake challenge, fun with my sister, nerd support, cross stitch
