OH MY GOD IT WAS SO COLD TODAY. *gets a grip* it was like 9ºf when my roommate left for work. brilliantly sunny but bitter cold. i left the house for like two minutes after lunch and by "left the house" i mean "opened the front door, leaned out of the front hall, and grabbed the mail". i didn't even step out of the doorway. one of the absolute benefits of working from home is not having to deal with the weather between the house and the t station.
saturday was also brilliantly sunny altho fortunately not as cold, and all the snow was so pretty. and i had a dentist appointment. :| but i did walk around a little, got lunch, went home. that night i went to my sister's to watch being the ricardos, about lucille ball and desi arnaz, and while i could buy javier bardem as desi because i have no frame of reference, i was very aware that i was watching nicole kidman play lucille ball. but when she was playing lucille ball playing lucy ricardo - when they switched to black and white for i love lucy bits, that i could buy. she was very good. i'm not sure how i feel about the movie overall - i think it was well-done and as much as i had a hard time seeing nicole as lucille, that might be my issue more than the movie's. and it had alia shawkat, but every scene she was in i flashed back to her in search party. >.<
sunday i was supposed to curl, right? we had a bye last week so this would've been my first game of the year. i know one person on my new team and coincidentally she couldn't play and needed a sub. no biggie, i figured i'd just find my team on the ice, because i knew what sheet we were on. (a sheet is the field of play, as it were. the strip of ice the two teams play on.) so i get to the curling club slightly late - by which i mean everyone had already started by the time i got my shoes on, ahem - and... there was no one on our sheet. i was VERY CONFUSED. so i asked someone on the next sheet what team they were on, and it turned out they had three people out and had to forfeit and they were not my team, and the other team was not my team, and then everyone was confused. so i ended up playing a random pick-up game with a random team, because my team never showed.
turns out two people on the opposing team couldn't play, so the opposing team had to forfeit, so i guess no one showed up. emails went out at about 4:15 - we went on the ice at 6:15 - but i was family zooming. wtf. at least i got some exercise? i didn't play fabulously well but also i didn't have to.
hear a reporter getting whacked with snowplow slush. i'd feel bad for her but she laughed it off and apparently wasn't too wet. this is the risk you run when you do the news from the side of the highway during a snowstorm.
BOB'S BURGERS IS GETTING A MOVIE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
back in the 80s this guy's mom and her sisters created a calendar called every woman's fantasy.
would you like to see the pictures? they're entirely safe for work, i promise. there are a lot of 80s-attractive guys but no one is naked and it's not even particularly salacious.
if you paid attention to the golden globes you might already know this, but
mj rodriguez won best actress for pose, becoming the first out trans woman to win a golden globe. well deserved but also, how cool! too bad the golden globes weren't live, so she couldn't stand in front of an auditorium and give her speech.
and now, snowflake!
challenge #5 - what do you wish you had the time/talent/energy to do!
if i had all the time in the world and all the mental oomph, i'd write the story of oskar and conrad, the story i love the most that i'll never write. actually now that i say that i'm not sure who's still around who remembers them.... so if you need a refresher. :D they're nice german boys from munich. they're twenty in 1938. oskar's jewish, conrad isn't, and they're both exceptionally gay for each other. oskar is sent to auschwitz with his family. conrad joins the army because he's too afraid not to. oskar manages to escape the death camp and ends up with the partisans in the polish forest. conrad gets himself assigned away from a combat unit and to a desk in a government office where he can be a draftsman. (before the war he was studying to be an architect. oskar wanted to be a doctor.) when oskar hears that the americans landed at normandy and liberated paris he walks across europe to france. when the war is over conrad goes home, because what else is he going to do? oskar walks out of a displaced persons' camp and back to munich, where he knocks on conrad's parents' front door and conrad is home. they go to switzerland, they go to the us, they buy a house. oskar's an ob/gyn, conrad teaches high school art, they're very happy. but it's a story with an excessive amount of research and a lot of grim before the happy ending - oskar's the only one of his family to survive, besides a cousin who escapes to brazil - and as much as i love it, it's beyond my ability to tell.
also, if i had the patience to learn to vid, which i don't, there are a bunch of vids i'd like to make - catws-era steve (with maybe some steve/bucky) to the von bondies'
c'mon c'mon, steve/peggy to the chainsmokers & coldplay's
something just like this, either catws-era steve (again :D ) or post-catws bucky to oingo boingo's
just another day, hotch and foyet to recoil's
want, a general generation kill vid to either living things'
bom bom bom or the offspring's
hammerhead, and even tho it was my notp, dean/castiel to heart's
magic man. vid suggestions free to good homes. :D
no one else gets oskar and conrad, tho.
challenge #6 - make something!
i have a very hard time creating on demand, but i can share two podfics i did for fandom trumps hate. i posted them to ao3 the very end of december and haven't mentioned them elseweb.
spark, by rispacooper (teen wolf/being(s) in love) and
entropy, by foxlives (shameless). i don't know any of the fandoms but the fics were fun to read.
i'm also working on a cross stitch for my sister, because while she never read lotr or the hobbit, she's a massive fan of all the movies.
it was supposed to be a birthday present, then a hanukah present, but i am, shall we say, procrastinatory. it will get done. eventually.
