two things!
one: it was VERY COLD again today. like, single-digit mornings, low double-digit afternoons. it might have been 14º at 3:30 when i left the house, and now it's 7º. oy.
two: my curling club asks everyone to volunteer eight hours each season, usually at bonspiels. i volunteered to work a couple of hours in the kitchen at the bonspiel this weekend, but when i got there, there were only three cars in the parking lot. which is... not right. i found an old email that i must have read, deleted, and forgot about that said oh right, the bonspiel was postponed, ignore all the signup emails that you keep getting. >.< so i turned around and came home. so far i'm batting zero at curling. i should get to play tomorrow, but if i get there and my team's not there and the opposing team's not there - again - i'm just going back home.
here's an online
carrot museum for all your carroty needs. it even has floor plans of the (entirely virtual) building, with links to the "exhibits" and a cafe.
ida b wells is getting a barbie. and maya angelou is going to be on a us quarter! exciting times.
married canadian lesbians buy a vitamix. cat stakes a claim to the box. before the ladies can even open it.
a standoff ensues. for three weeks. vitamix even gets involved. it's very cute, very weird, and very entertaining.
ok, that was three. and snowflake makes four.
challenge #7 was fandom sources, but mine haven't changed since last year. my favorite fandom sources remain tumblr and my lj/dw flist. i got questions, you all got answers. and tumblr has pictures.
challenge #8 - celebrate a win!
i don't remember ealier than last june, and i can only think of one fandom win anyway. i co-moderated a panel on the old guard sequel at (virtual) confabcon, by which i mean i led a discussion of what we know about said sequel (very little) and what we want from said sequel (lots), without doing all the talking or dissolving into a puddle of fangirl-overcome-by-luca-marinelli's-fucking-face-and-also-his-hair. ahem. it was a lively discussion, and so a successful panel. (
celli was one of my co-mods and i can't remember the other person's name! celli made the slideshow and it was lovely.)
the other wins are because i moved at the end of may. (my old landlady sold the building.) i bought a new bed, discovered it wasn't as tall as the web site led me to believe, bought risers, hiked it up another two inches, and fit almost thirty years of comics and two boxes of sweaters underneath it, go me. (two longboxes wouldn't fit and are now under my window.)
i also measured for and bought a slab of wood for a shelf in my closet, assembled a tv console/cabinet thing and unpacked my dvd's into it - god bless flatpack furniture - and bought a new cordless drill and some metal brackets so i could replace the plastic bracket that broke under the weight of the coats on the clothes rod in the front hall. home beautiful shit. :D except the bed, which was home necessary.
also, and this might not seem like a big deal to anyone else but it was for me - about a week after i moved i made three bean salad and mint chocolate chocolate chip cookies in my half-unpacked, weirdo kitchen - maneuvering around moving boxes and giant plastic tubs and the fact that my apartment is a rental and kitchen counter space is almost non-existent in the best of times, and i had to jerry-rig cooling racks because mine were at the bottom of a box - the cookies and the three bean salad went to friend f's "it's summer, we're vaxxed, we can gather a small group inside with all the windows open" brunch where i got to hug people in person FINALLY.
my roommate has a lot of shit (and is also disorganized and easily distracted). i have a lot of shit (and am slightly more organized and slightly less easily distracted). the apartment is not big enough for all of it, and it definitely wasn't big enough in june. i just really missed making food for other people.
