good news, everyone!

it's been a while. >.< it's always been a while. but guess what happened while i wasn't updating! i got offered (and accepted) actual full time salaried employment where i work! so i won't be a contract employee any more! and i'll get *gasp* paid time off and paid holidays! and dental insurance! and a pension plan and whatever other nifty benefits they have, but mostly actualfax employed-by-the-u salaried employment. :D i got a "when you get a chance can you please call me" email from the head of admins at 4:30 on friday, and that's what she wanted to tell me. everyone is apparently pleased with my work and they want to keep me. so, yay. i did a little happy dance in the kitchen and then called my sister so she could be happy for me too. and today i celebrated with a slice of pumpkin cheesecake, because pumpkin.

other than that the week was very chill, like pretty much every other week. nano starts in a week and i don't know if i should be panicking or not. i feel weirdly calm about it. i have no idea what i'm doing and it may devolve into the main character's best friend having the hots for her and the main character being kind of oblivious to it. eh, i'll figure it out.

yesterday i went to my sister's to help her put together a little bench she got for her front hall (really all we had to do was put the legs on) and watch ali and order chinese food, as is the tradition of our people. i don't know how i feel about the movie - it had the vaguest sense of the passage of time and it felt like it started in the middle of the story - but will smith was good. according to imdb he didn't want to take the role but muhammad ali called him and said he had to do it, because he was the only actor who was good-looking enough. heh.

i finished the haunting of bly manor, by which i mean i turned on all the lights in my house so i could watch the last few episodes at night and not scare myself. i liked it a lot. but it had such a sad ending. the kids were the only ones who got a happy ending. and henry, i guess. but everyone else? death and ghosts! even if owen got his own restaurant and dani and jamie had i think a whole happy decade together. but it was just a decade. and also, what happened to the ghost of dani's dead fiance? he just... stopped showing up. was there an explanation and i missed it? was it just her burning his glasses that got rid of him? the costumes were great - good 80s clothes without being screamingly cliched 80s. and the house was amazing, if deeply creepy.

i also started godless, which is not as i was led to believe a show about a town of women in the old west. i mean, it is set in the old west and does have a town inhabited mostly by women since there was an accident at the mine that killed almost all the men, but there's a lot more story than that. i'm only three episodes in but i give it two thumbs up so far. and i don't have to watch it with all the lights on, either. :D

this is a really good article about friendships, specifically the kinds of friendships that are as close and as meaningful as romantic relationships.

did you know dracula ran on broadway in the 70s? because i didn't. even more fun, edward gorey designed the sets.

dad turns his daughter into a zoom meeting for halloween.

check out some things from the fisher price vintage toy "museum", and by "museum" they mean "instagram account". same idea, tho. do you feel nostalgic yet? :D

neighborhood lockdown maps - maps that people drew of their neighborhoods (or sometimes just their houses) during pandemic lockdown. one of my favorites is a fantasy type map with among other things a dragon protecting the white hoard, aka rolls of toilet paper.

dracula, adventures in quarantine, ah nostalgia, halloween, friendship, maps, good news, nanowrimo, fun with my sister, godless, movies, the haunting of bly manor, edward gorey, nerd support
