first, happy (slightly late) birthday, amberdreams! artist and fabulous fangirl. and i'm not just saying that. :D i hope it was a good one!

dancing boys: *high kick*

What I just finished reading:
trail of lightning, which overall i enjoyed. it's set in a post-apocalyptic america that's been mostly flooded except for the navajo nation, and now gods and monsters walk among the people. which is a new post-apocalypse for me. i pegged the love interest as such from his first appearance, and even tho it took almost the whole book to get there, i was still annoyed when it did. it also took a while to warm up to the main character - she felt a little cliched, in a "i'm a monster and everyone who loves me dies" kind of way, which isn't really my favorite character trope - but it helps that she's not a total asshole, and the backstory gives you some good reasons for why she's the kind of person she is. and at the end a lot of threads come together in a way i wasn't expecting but which made (convoluted) sense, and i really liked that. there's a sequel i'm curious about now.

also giant days vol 5, which continues adorable and fun.

What I am reading now:
wolf hall, by hilary mantel, because apparently i was feeling it for some historical-fiction-based-on-fact in a time period i don't normally read (england in the mid-1500s). i just started it today so i don't have much opinion, other than i like it so far altho the narrative tendency to refer to the main character as "he" - never by name - is annoying and occasionally confusing, when there's more than one "he" doing and saying things.

What I'm going to read next:
a little free library coughed up something called the reservoir, by john milliken thompson, which is also historical-fiction-based-on-fact (this time virginia in the 1880s). so, that.

coyote, meet golf ball.

spot the station - enter your location and find out where and when to look to see the international space station (and its two new residents!) from the ground. NEAT.

a thing i learned yesterday: there's a great gefilte fish line running through american jewry, and where your people came from evidently determines whether you like your gefilte fish sweet or salty. family history (and slight cultural differences) expressed through taste preferences. also NEAT.

stand up for this guy in dc who let a bunch of protesters into his house (and by "a bunch" i mean "about 100") when cops trapped them in the street and started pepper spraying. they stayed overnight. apparently he wasn't the only homeowner on the block who did that, either.

human kindness, outer space, food, international space station, wednesday reading meme, cuteness, jewstuff
