i hate being unemployed. i just need to put that out there. i do however have an actual in-person interview tomorrow, and one next monday, so hopefully i won't be unemployed for long. i had a phone interview today and when the woman i talked to asked when i'd be ready to start (theoretically, in a "do you have anything coming up that would prevent you from starting employment until later" kind of way), i said pretty much immediately, because i'm ready to be employed. i don't actually want this job - it's another tax admin job for an accounting firm that sounds very similar in a lot of ways to the place that just let me go - but i didn't want to turn down a phone interview. fingers crossed for tomorrow, in any case. i don't know what to wear, tho. something professional that i won't die in, in 84º heat.
so ao3
won a hugo! for best related work. in her acceptance speech for the archive, naomi novik asked everyone who was part of the ao3 community to stand up, and like half the audience did. into the spider-verse and the janet(s) episode of the good place also won, which is very exciting.
saturday i went out for dinner with my sister and one of her friends. we sat outside and it was sooo niiice. the food was good but the service was, uh, well, not. none of the desserts excited us so we went to the grocery store across the street for baked goods. i just wanted a giant cream puff with like half a pound of whipped cream, but no luck. so i got a brownie with slightly less (but still a lot :D ) whipped cream. yum.
and sunday i started my fic for
j2-reversebang! because i actually managed to pick a prompt this year. it's steampunk(ish), so i've spent some quality time googling for pics. posting starts nov 2, so i'll even be done before nano. woot. :D
i finally saw good omens and LOVED. IT. i remembered just enough of the book to go "i remember that!" but not enough that i had opinions on how the show did things. i loved frances mcdormand as god, pepper was my favorite of the them, shadwell and madam tracy were adorable together, ditto anathema and newt, and david tennant and michael sheen had really great chemistry. (and were adorable together. :D ) it was funny and intense and i wanted to believe that crowley had a second plant room in his house, where he took the misbehaving plants and just played a recording of a wood chipper to motivate the other ones. did you watch it? come talk to me!
remembering nushu - it's (well, was) kind of a secret written language only women could write, in hunan province in china. it's going extinct.
