in which our intrepid heroine goes to new york for a flying visit and spends way more time than usual getting from place to place. >.<
by which i mean, the bus left half an hour late on friday, then took the long way out of massachusetts (side roads with stoplights rather than, you know, the turnpike), then hit construction, then hit traffic, then hit more traffic, then got to new york almost two and a half hours late. >.< the girl sitting next to me, her mom and grandma had been waiting for her that whole time. at least the sun came out and the bus dropped us off near the water, so mom and grandma could sit on a bench and admire the hudson river. but still! the rest of the day was really nice, tho - i checked in to the airbnb in williamsburg, dropped off my stuff, and went back out to meet
no-detective for dinner. and that was great fun. we talked about stuff and things and topics of a fannish nature, as one does, and then she went home and i went back to the airbnb and met a couple other girls staying there - and the woman who owned the place, who was super jetlagged but very friendly - and eventually put my ass to bed, on a VERY SOFT mattress. oh mommy. it was sooooo nice.
gratuitous picture of the empire state building, because new york. :D
saturday i met
chaneen in queens so we could see the tabernacle of prayer church, which used to be a fabulously ott movie palace. the woman giving the tour clearly liked the building and was very proud of the work the congregation had done to it - the theater was essentially abandoned by the company that built it, and when the church bought it they had to put a lot of money into restoring the interior - and as soon as i finish resizing my photos i'll post some. it was a great space.
then chaneen and i got stuck on the subway. >.< and got to hedwig and the angry inch - the whole reason for the trip! - a couple minutes after it started. >.< but they sat us anyway. it was a great show - taye diggs was hedwig and he started off by saying "that's right - the bitch is black", which kind of set the tone. it was funny and a little ridiculous and a little touching and the music was good and i thoroughly enjoyed it. and then we had either the latest lunch or earliest dinner ever with
@girlphenom and
@jane-anon, neither of whom i'd ever met, and had, as per usual, fun fangirl conversations. we (mostly me and jane) planned out a kind of fannish thunderdome - two fangirls enter, one fangirl leaves, each fighting with foam weapons and little beanbags in support of their particular ship. it could be fun! we should do it at wincon. :D not that i have the first idea how to organize it, or how to get foam swords and boffers and whatnot to the hotel, but still. it's a good way to get out one's aggressions over people slamming one's otp/ot3, no?
after that everything was anticlimax, by which i mean i had to go home. which took three and a half hours, rather than six.
i didn't get to ride the staten island ferry, and there's a building next to bryant park where they just discovered a mid-century mosaic in the lobby (it had been covered by a false wall but was found during renovations) which i didn't get to see either, but otherwise and aside from the bus&train shenanigans, it was a really excellent trip.
i'm half caught up on the tv i missed, meaning i've seen killjoys (holy crap cliffhanger!) and hannibal, which i had something to say about but i don't remember what it was. >.< possibly it was something about hannibal and will.
in sort of related news, there's now a
fake relationship trope fest riffing off that trope meme that went around. start with fake dating/fake marriage, add another trope, go forth and fic. if it sounds like your kind of thing, check it out.
this blind doggie's dad made him a bumper harness so he can walk around the house and not hurt himself. there's even
instructions to make your own, in case you have or know of a dog that's blind or visually impaired.
