reading meme! curling! shipping container dorm!

What I just finished reading:
shadows in bronze, which i enjoyed even tho it took a long time to get where it was going and there were a number of instances of "this problem could've been solved with much less angst if you'd just TALK TO EACH OTHER". but i like falco and helena - well, aside from the fact that they don't share anything important until absolutely forced to - and the supporting characters, and even if it isn't thoroughly researched it feels like it is, and i really appreciate that.

What I am reading now:
flowers in the attic, because my sister found a used single volume of that plus petals on the wind and she loaned it to me after we got back from florida. so i should read it so i can return it. mostly i want to know if it's as awesomely gothic and purple as i remember, but so far it's not. but i just started it today and the kids have just been introduced to their horrible grandmother and the bedroom and attic where they'll spend the next five or so years, so hopefully the badness will kick in soon.

What I'm going to read next:
i should read petals on the wind but i won't know for sure what i'll read next until i finish what i'm reading now.

i got a random package from work in the mail today - a pack of m&m's, a bag of microwave popcorn, two movie passes, and a note that said, basically, "thanks for the work you do, take a friend to the movies on us". cool. i've already eaten the m&m's. mmmm, chocolate.

i found streaming olympics at work this morning so i got to watch canada beat russia in curling. (men's curling - i missed the women.) team russia has some pretty funky pants, altho i think norway's are a little better. well, for various definitions of "better" that include "oh god my eyes"....

did you know there's an israeli curling federation? there is! they're trying to recruit american jewish curlers - there aren't a ton of curlers in israel, go fig - but you have to make aliyah, take israeli citizenship, and (this seems to be a sticking point) do your two years of army service. but still, israeli curlers! which is pretty cool.

south african dorm made of abandoned grain silos and shipping containers - if i was in college i would so live in a building like that. i've read mixed reviews about shipping container houses - they're good for the environment because you're recycling, they're cheap, they're expensive once you insulate them and make them habitable, they're ugly, they're too small, they make great tiny houses, etc etc - but i still think the concept is really cool.

olympics, wednesday reading meme, curling, new job big office, architectural nifty
