typo of the morning: a sign for "assport photos". (technically not a typo, as the "p" on the sign was busted.) hee.

What I just read:
a lot of comics! i'm all caught up on hawkguy hawkeye now and am liking it a lot. i love that almost every issue starts with or has at least one instance of "i know this looks bad". clint's adorable. screwed up, but adorable. i really like his relationship with kate, i love that he has a dog and has taken it upon himself to look after everyone in his building, and i wasn't expecting the bros in tracksuits to keep reappearing, but i like that they do. i'm enjoying the continuity. also two thumbs up for david aja's art.

i also finally caught up on unwritten which hasn't made sense in at least a year - seriously, the mytharc has totally gotten away from me, which means either it doesn't hang together or i'm just kind of dumb - but i don't know who else reads it besides me, and i don't have anything to say about it anyway, aside from i keep reading it because i still kinda like it.

What I'm reading now:
desert queen: the extraordinary life of gertrude bell: adventurer, adviser to kings, ally of lawrence of arabia, by janet wallach, which is such a long title but tells you most of what you need to know. she's already met te lawrence the first time, at an archeological dig, but they're still only kind of friends, and now i'm at the point where she's decided to travel down through the arabian desert - which was the middle of nowhere - to meet a couple of sheikhs because, y'know, she's really, really curious about them. i'm kind of amazed that she could say "i want to see the middle east" and thus learn persian and arabic, make friends, influence people, search for bedouins, and basically do whatever and go wherever she damn well pleased, without negative social consequence.

What I'm reading next:
maybe the last light of the sun, by guy gavriel kay, altho since it seems to be historical fantasy on a viking template (the way a song for arbonne was historical fantasy on a medieval languedoc template) i imagine i'll spend at least part of the time i'm reading it expecting it to turn into vikings-the-tv-series, and being disappointed at the lack of athelstan. i loved a song for arbonne but i couldn't finish tigana, so we'll see, i might lose patience with ggk again. but at the same time, vikings! and i do love a good viking story.

i'm not hungry but i want to eat something. i want a ho-ho, something tooth-rottingly sweet and vaguely artificial. or granola, because i don't actually have any in the house.

funny, book memes
