it just wasn't my day to do smart stuff

so today at work i discovered i'd fucked up twice, on two separate things. i took the files for company a and when i saved them on the server i used them to overwrite the files for company b, which means the files for company b no longer exist, and trying to reconstruct them took longer and was more of a pain than it should have been. but that was totally my fault. the other thing was i sent some reports to our office in providence (the company i work for has a bunch of offices in new england), but actually the guy in the mail room sent them to the office in westborough (in western mass) instead, because apparently there's only one box for interoffice mail in the mail room, and the box is for stuff going to westborough. >.< this actually wasn't my fault - how was i supposed to know that all interoffice mail goes to the same office by default? i'd even put a post-it on the reports that said "please send to [auditor] in providence". several phone calls and emails between me and the mail room later, the reports were found and sent to providence. even tho they should've been there tuesday, and the client got kinda pissed because, you know, they need the reports.

i would like to be competent at something, but clearly my job is not it.

on the other hand, when i finally left the office to go for a walk, i got kind of lost in the north end (historically italian part of boston, which means... bakeries :D ) and randomly walked by the old north church (of midnight ride fame - you know, "one if by land and two if by sea") and went in. there was a crowd of teenagers from some group or other - they all had matching t-shirts - and we got a five-minute speech from the, uh, i guess she'd be a docent, about the church and paul revere and his midnight ride. i'd never been there. i've lived in greater boston fifteen years and there's so much touristy stuff i've never done.

and now i'm out of things to say. i watched hannibal, felt bad for will, was grossed out, enjoyed it anyway. also the weather widget on my laptop says it's 83º out. i hate summer. i like all the sun but the heat gives me a headache.

we're havin' a heat wave, i'm smarter than i look really i am, hannibal, boston, i love where i live, new job big office
