first, question for the spn/j2 fans on the flist - can jared sing? does anyone know? can chad?
(i spent like two hours in the diesel today reading public enemies, so i have bigbang on the brain. and man, the fbi fucked up a lot in the early days. hoover must've been SO embarrassed.)
last night - er, this morning - i went to bed around four because a. i was watching criminal minds, but mostly b. i wasn't tired. and then, in defiance of all logic, habit, and previous experience, i got out of bed at nine because i was wide awake. i find this very confusing, actually. the best i can come up with is that it was WINDY AS HELL and i couldn't sleep for all the noise. and i was a little worried the plants hanging from my front porch were going to blow off my front porch. so i took them down. and then there didn't seem to be any point in going back to bed. so i ate breakfast and read some comics and got dressed and went to the post office and bought stamps and mailed my bills and then sat in the diesel for two hours reading about bank robbers and assorted depression-era criminals and the baby fbi. and i had a large mint cafe mocha and spent the next couple hours vibrating from the caffiene. yowza.
so last night's cm reruns (all s4, woo) were normal (aka "well that was grim - here's shemar moore holding a baby!" [1]), soul mates (which i'd never seen), and bloodlines (which was one of the first episodes i did see, way back when). bloodlines has this really fabulous scene of hotch and prentiss basically tag-teaming the unsub, playing good cop/bad cop to get her to talk. it's fascinating to watch them go at her for the way they play off (and against) each other as well as what each of them say to her. you get some angry!hotch which might be genuine anger but also comes across as part of the particular role he's chosen to play in the interrogation. it's really good. and in soul mates you get some angry!morgan, which is genuine anger against a smug, self-satisfied unsub. i liked that one. i like the episodes with unsub couples/teams. the ones where said unsubs are more or less equal in the partnership, and you're not getting one clear dominant and one clear submissive, are really interesting. but there are very few of those.
and normal is just kind of horrific. altho the unsub has some sweet model cars and yes i did pay very close attention to them on account of one of them looks a bit like a 1960s impala. (mitch pileggi, the unsub, was also mary winchester's dad. cm/spn actor cross-pollination for the win. :D his episode on spn came first and i really really wanted there to be a wee metallicar on cm as kind of an in-joke, but there wasn't.)
i did not however like spencer's hair - it was all brushed back off his forehead and matthew has slightly too much forehead for that to be a good look. it doesn't really suit his face. but at least it's an actual style and not just hair.... and it's a nice length.
(i had this whole theory of spencerhair vs matthewhair and which season was which and why, which i inflicted upon
wrenlet because i could, but which i will spare you from. at least s4 spencer has learned how to dress, and i'm not facepalming at the grandpa cardigans so much.)
i have - well, had, because i don't know how well i can marshal them now - thots about this past week's new episode (100, aka "oh hotch, oh haley"), but i might have to watch it again before i really talk about it, if i want to try and work up any kind of discussion here. i kind of feel like i said everything i wanted to say either in chat or as responses on other people's ljs, anyway.
and in unrelated news, because i really can talk about things that aren't criminal minds, white collar continues to be COMPLETELY ADORABLE and the cases continue to be kind of irrelevant and really just a framework on which to hang neal and peter's relationship. (and, occasionally, neal and peter and elizabeth's relationship. :D ) peter's worried about neal's safety! neal's worried peter doesn't love want to work with him any more! and peter wears socks with dogs on them! this is a sign of the true dog person, and i love that about him SO MUCH. i'm bummed this coming week is the (season? half-time?) finale.
[1] this is how
youraugustine refers to it, and she's not wrong. it is indeed a fairly grim episode. but it ends with morgan holding jj's baby, which is one of the cutest things ever. and also, hotch smiling. :D
