cute child sighting of the day: a little girl (like, toddler-little) pushing her own stroller and wearing striped pants with a big yellow flower applique on the butt. she was also wearing teeny rubber boots. SOCUTE.

no cute dog sightings so far, altho yesterday i did see a very, uh, bouncy french bulldog on my way home from work.

also i ended up briefly behind an suv with a bumpersticker that said "vaccinations are poison" and i was inexplicably consumed with fury. seriously, CONSUMED. i may or may not have ranted kind of a lot in my head about how STUPID that bumpersticker was, and how grateful the person driving the suv should be that the kids (and adults) in his/her life are no longer in danger of getting tb or measles or being crippled by polio. and then i very briefly wished for them to catch a disease that they'd be immune to if they'd gotten all their vaccinations. and then i felt like a bad person. ...but not for long.

apparently my ire is roused by vaccine stupidity and shortsightedness. who knew.

finally got around to watching criminal minds from two weeks ago (the performer, which was on the week i was in spain) - the one with gavin rossdale - and the twilight reference made me giggle but i think by now it's ubiquitous enough that even spencer will have heard of it. he knows siouxsie and the banshees, i think he'll recognize a twilight mention when he hears it. altho i guess i could be wrong.... i liked that it was kind of a spencer-heavy episode, altho i was a little surprised they essentially let him work up the profile by himself, because it's usually more of a group effort. (and they should've known dante wasn't the unsub when so much of him didn't fit the profile so early on, because the profile is never THAT wrong.) everyone looking at him on the plane with "well? bring us up to speed on vampire pathology", fully expecting him to do it, was cute. they gave him license to babble. :D and they know he's the resident walking encyclopedia of weirdness. and morgan stopped himself from calling garcia "baby girl", and that was also cute but kind of odd. i guess he's trying to be all hotchy and leadery, and less casual with his team. garcia didn't seem to mind, anyway.

i'm not sure how i feel about the fact that the ptb seemed to be alternately mocking and pathologizing vampire-fan subculture ("vampurists", heh), or that the unsub turned out to be such a crazy diehard fan because she was actually legitimately nuts. it's not the first time they've kind of equated "diehard fan" with "homicidally insane person". ("i never have any normal fans." yes, spencer, we know, but you're not alone.) does psychosis lend itself to that kind of intense fannishness, or are the ptb suggesting that you can only be that big a fangirl/fanboy if you're already unhinged? tell us how you really feel about fandom, bernero.

(agent kim, the mention of lila, los angeles, and a little famous-person media circus added to "diehard fan" and "homicidally insane person" brings us back to somebody's watching, which is probably why this is the first we've heard of lila since s1. otherwise - with just "crazy fan" but without the la attachments - we'd be looking at, i dunno, masterpiece. or empty planet. or the last word, altho that was one serial killer fanboying another, so i'm not sure how much it counts. i mean, the bau's previous trip to la was in normal, which was a completely different kind of story than the performer. so there was no reason back then to mention spencer's aborted relationship with the pretty starlet, because it didn't fit. now it fits.)

(there was a point to that digression, i swear. i'm just not sure what it was, other than "ooh, continuity with a point!" instead of for its own sake. and i like the continuity. read on. :D )

i did really like that we got references to lila AND prentiss' gothy high school days in the same five minutes. i love me some show continuity. :D spencer's reaction to the mention of lila makes me wonder what happened between them, aside from the fact it probably didn't last long. it's a sore spot, obviously. but prentiss can laugh at her high school self, which i love. and i like the mention of her as a college student trying to make her own way and pretending that she's not really living off the money her mom sticks in her bank account. i like prentiss a lot, can i just say?

and for once this episode seemed to actually be about the case. and we got to see agent kim again, and he remembered them. it's only been five years.... he's very competent and totally prepared when the bau shows up, and he's used to investigating homicides in la. i like him.

i started this post intending to make it about the house down the street, which looks mostly finished on the outside - i have pics :D - and has drywall and kitchen cabinets up on the inside, but i got sidetracked a bit. it happens. tonight's the 100th episode of cm and i expect it will be a doozy, so i'm kind of thinking about it in advance.

cute child sighting, stupid people, the house down the street, doggie love, criminal minds s5
