watchmen condoms - blue promotional prophylactics! kinda odd, kinda nifty. (link from phinnia) (and also spnnewsletter)

i now have a to-make list for books i want to make. it's five books long. (this is a lot, considering i bind at the speed of molasses in winter.) i've made some progress on two of them, and have thought long and hard about a third and fourth. dunno what to do about the fifth, which is why it's fifth. i hate being half-finished-projects girl. on the plus side, i have all the parts i need, paper and bookmark ribbon and stuff. i just have to, you know, make them.

and yet i still kind of want to learn how to knit. well, crochet. i'd never finish anything unless i could do it all at once. i'd be making all these tiny scarves and, like, doll hats and itty-bitty crocheted hedgies and ninjas and owls and things. is crocheting hard to learn? can i teach myself?

apiphile sent me a book - david macaulay's underground. which is about - this will come as a surprise :D - what's under the street in a modern city. sewers and building foundations and plumbing and subway tunnels and utility cables and all kinds of nifty things. a lot of drawings of fire hydrants also include dogs looking at them thoughtfully. in the section about sewers, there's a drawing of a cross section of sewer pipe with an alligator creeping down it. hee. it's a really, really cool book, and derek is really, really sweet for sending it to me. a scholar and a gentleman indeed. *hearts*

(and in exchange i sent her avi's of generation kill....)

plums have now appeared in my office and i must eat one. and possibly do some actual work.... *ahem*
